I have a client who is considering renouncing his US citizenship. He is trying to figure out how he will prove to financial institutions and other organizations that he has renounced if they request his place of birth, want to see his birth certificate, etc. He knows that providing a copy of his CLN form is primary, but are there other documents or forms of "proof" he should have ready that are typically required to prove one's US renunciation?

That list only shows people who are covered by 877A which means they had over 200K USD tax liability each year or had over 2M USD net worth. My client doesn't quite fit these labels.

Do you know if FFI's typically request more than just a copy of the the CLN certificate? Is he being to nervous about this?

Poor guy. No money and so nervous. I think in most cases, the certificate is enough. But banks can ask for anything they want. If he does not have any other nationality, it is going to be difficult, no matter what.

He just got his second citizenship in the Caribbean so he checked that box. And he is not without means, just not above the threshold to make that list. He is trying to prepare for the eventual process when it comes to non-US FFIs.
Perhaps one of our OCT colleagues who has experience with this particular situation will be able to fill in any gaps for us?
