TRC as alternative to tax return

As european banks are obsessed with asking for tax returns when onboarding new clients nowadays, I was wandering if tax residence certificate is typically accepted as alternative?

I was never asked for tax returns. What type of bank account, personal‍ or corporate? Are you citizen, legal resident and tax resident in EU?

Personal. Citizen but not resident.

No, it is not. If they ask for tax return (yes, it happens‍ quite often), it is because of the source of funds investigation/assesment, so a tax residence⁠ certificate being worth nothing there. If they want just to confirm your tax residence, they⁤ usually ask just for TIN.

A tax return shows that you have declared income and paid taxes (if any) on‌ your income.

A TRC shows you are supposed to declare income and pay taxes (if‍ any) on your relevant income.

They serve different purposes.
