It's so simple, thanks to the EU and its “Western values”:

EU says Russia is bad.
EU forbids doing business with Russia.
EU forbids going to Russia.
EU forbids talking good about Russia.

Therefore:

Russia is good.
Doing business with Russia is lucrative.
I go to Russia.
I like Russia.

You don't really need one if you can speak basic Russian and are willing to put some effort into the process.
I will update on my experience once I'm in Russia, I'm currently making arrangements to my schedule.

I'm not⁠ getting a lot of answers from the one you mentioned and I need to clarify⁤ something in regards to the apostille. My country only does it digitally now.

Correction: you need to go with a specific visa issued on the basis of your intention to apply for a permit.

You also need a permanent place where to reside in the country, and register the address with the local government office. I'm going to complete this step before going to Russia for the application.

Just got confirmation that I can‌ print the digital document from the government and apostille them. The apostille needs to be‍ physical but the birth certificate / criminal record can be digital and later printed.

I'm waiting for an‍ answer from the consulate of my country of residence as they seem to never check⁠ the email / answer.
