📝 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 The British reaction to the US supporting the Falklands going to Argentina and Irish unification under the Republic is so fractious and discombobulated because the truth of the British-American relationship has been one based on deep denial and repression.
In 1956 during the Suez Crisis the US made its policy clear: Britain would not be allowed to maintain any of its imperial possessions. Any attempt to maintain them would be met with raw American power.
The Argentineans fought the British in the early-80s with a large supply of American weapons. The Peace Process in 1997 in Ireland was brokered by the Americans and was de facto an Irish Republican victory.
The post-1956 policy has never changed. Why did the British act like this was not the reality? Many reasons, too many to go into here. But they didn’t. Now Trump is saying the quiet part out loud and British commentators are acting as if they were betrayed? These policies are four generations old.
I never understood why the British repress these obvious realities. Every foreign observer knows them. But until Trump says them out loud talking about them in Britain is like passing wind at a dinner party. Maybe Trump’s diplomatic trolling is a moment when Britain actually looks itself in the mirror.

If in Asia and the Middle East church communities form around recent relocation flows and entrepreneurs, then in Latin America the situation looks fundamentally different. Here Eastern Christian presence spans more than a century, yet the very mechanism of uniting people around shared spiritual roots faces an entirely different set of challenges.
➡️On paper, the demographic base looks impressive. Argentina has around 300,000 descendants of settlers from several historical waves and newly arrived citizens. In Brazil, the number of people of Eastern European origin is estimated at 200,000, concentrated mainly in São Paulo and southern states.
Notable communities persist in Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, and the Cuban parish in Havana has served for decades as a notable architectural center in the Caribbean basin.
📌 However, unlike conditional Dubai, Phuket or Bali, where communities consist of people with active passports and direct ties to the homeland, the Latin American environment has fundamental differences.
🖍Therefore, the logic of consolidation that works organically in Eastern countries hits an institutional dead end in South America. Parishes struggle to compete for the attention of people who have long been integrated into local society and don't experience nostalgia.
❗️To overcome this inertia, churches lack the transition from passive preservation of historical walls to creating living centers of bilingual humanitarian work: opening language courses for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking descendants, youth cultural clubs and educational programs.
Without such systemic support, old parishes risk ultimately becoming rare ethnographic open-air museums, losing the chance to become a real bridge between generations.

A new social-media trend among Yemen’s Houthis is featuring fighters and supporters filming themselves overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait while issuing threats against Saudi Arabia and emphasizing their claimed ability to control the strategic Red Sea chokepoint.
In one video, a Houthi addresses Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman directly, declaring that no Saudi ship or even a Saudi nail will be allowed through Bab al-Mandab or the Red Sea until the siege on Yemen is lifted.
Other videos have adopted similar imagery and theatrical props, turning the strait, through which major international shipping routes pass, into the backdrop for a coordinated propaganda campaign aimed at projecting Houthi maritime power and increasing pressure on Riyadh.
