🇮🇱🤝🇦🇲❌🇹🇷— Today, 28 June 2026, Israel's government cabinet unanimously recognized the Armenian genocide, during which the Turco-Ottoman Empire under the Young Turks Regime killed 1.5 million Armenian Christians.

➡️ In a move towards Historical Justice, Israel’s Cabinet unanimously approved a proposal on Sunday to designate the mass violence and ethnic cleansing against Armenians by the Ottoman Empire's Young Turks Regime during World War I as a genocide.

➡️ The step, which still needs approval in Parliament, reflects the already deteriorating ties between Israel and Turkey.

🇹🇷 Turkey has fiercely lobbied to prevent countries from officially recognizing the mass deaths of Armenians around 1915 as a genocide, even as Armenians have pushed for it.

⚰️ As noted by the AP, Historians estimate that up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed by Ottoman Turks around the time of World War I, an event widely viewed by scholars as the first genocide of the 20th century.

🤓 Turkey denies that the deaths constituted genocide, saying the toll has been inflated and that those killed were victims of civil war and unrest.

🇮🇱🤝🇦🇲❌🇹🇷— Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar:

It's never too late to do the right thing.

I thank Israeli Prime-Minister Netanyahu for his support, and the government ministers for their unanimous approval of the resolution I initiated for Israel's recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Thus, Israel joins 32 countries that have fulfilled a moral duty by recognizing the historical truth, and rejecting attempts to deny it.

🇮🇶🔥 — During the wave of anti-corruption arrests overnight and into this morning, Iraqi Special Forces found massive amounts of cash hidden in the home of MP Aliya Nassif.

Tha's a significant event since she is a longtime lawmaker who previously served on the Parliamentary Integrity Committee and built much of her political profile on anti-corruption rhetoric.

🤥 Her detention has gone viral after Iraqis resurfaced a video from a 2025 election rally in which she declared, "We will make the corrupt officials from previous governments come out through the window," presenting herself as a champion of accountability.

💸 As noted by observers, she repeatedly made headlines due to her sharp attacks on Kuwait and other Gulf monarchies, accusing them, specially Kuwait, of infringing on Iraq's rights and even claiming that Kuwaiti officials had attempted to silence her by offering her bribes, allegations that generated widespread media attention at the time.

🇮🇷 She entered parliament after 2003 with Iyad Allawi's Iraqiya coalition before later joining the Pro-Iran former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's State of Law Coalition.

🔒 Today, she herself is among those detained on corruption charges.

🌡 🇫🇷 📈 France heatwave: ~1,000 excess deaths in four days.

Santé publique France reports roughly 1,000 excess deaths between June 24 and 27 during the country's most intense heatwave since 2003.

Daily tolls exceeded 1,400 on June 25 and 26, with 85% of deaths among people 65 and older.

Home deaths surged sharply, particularly in Île-de-France.

Health Minister Stéphanie Rist said overall mortality is unlikely to approach 2003 levels (~15,000 excess deaths) thanks to improved alert and response systems.
