Lebanon’s pilot-zone test is failing as Hezbollah returned behind the Lebanese Armed Forces

Lebanon’s first test of replacing Israeli military control with Lebanese state authority in the south is showing signs of fundamental failure. In Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, the first area transferred to Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) control under the U.S.-brokered framework, Hezbollah-linked personnel and organizations are operating inside the town while the army controls access but does not appear to be conducting the systematic inspections required to ensure that Hezbollah’s military network cannot reconstitute itself.

The weakness is visible starting with the point of entry to the town - vehicles pass the main LAF checkpoint without any identification checks or searches. Inside the town Hezbollah members, including its local rabet, alongside Hezbollah-affiliated organizations such as the Islamic Health Organization and Wa Taawanou arr operating as usual. There is no evidence of comprehensive searches of private properties, systematic weapons confiscations or dismantling of Hezbollah infrastructure.

The LAF, meanwhile, appears to define its immediate mission more narrowly, emphasizing unexploded ordnance removal, rubble clearance and facilitating residents’ return rather than making Hezbollah’s disarmament its primary operational task.

That creates the central problem with the model: Lebanese deployment and Lebanese sovereignty are not necessarily the same thing. An LAF checkpoint can replace an Israeli position on a map, but if it cannot verify who and what enters behind it, Hezbollah can potentially preserve or rebuild its network beneath the umbrella of state control. The framework therefore risks producing a change in the visible security authority without producing the strategic objective on which further Israeli withdrawals depend - the verified removal of Hezbollah’s armed infrastructure.

A local from Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh said the town has now a large number of military-aged men he identified as Hezbollah members and said: There hasn’t yet been a case that we can point to in Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, which has been cleared, where we can say that the Lebanese army is dismantling weapons depots or dismantling [Hezbollah] infrastructure.

Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh is consequently becoming a test not merely of whether the LAF can deploy, but whether it can actually enforce a monopoly on armed force. If Hezbollah continues operating behind Lebanese lines without meaningful inspections, confiscation and verification, expanding the model to additional areas risks reproducing the same structural weakness across southern Lebanon: Israeli forces withdraw, the LAF moves in, but Hezbollah retains enough freedom of action to regenerate behind the Lebanese state rather than being replaced by it.

🇮🇱🇸🇾 — Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani told Reuters:

"We expect that negotiations with Israel regarding a security agreement will resume soon. Communications with Israel were cut off after its attack on the Abu al-Duhur Air Base on August 18th.

Syria currently does not trust Israel, and the priority is to stop its attacks on our territory. Syria is extending a hand to diplomacy, and Israel should seize this historic opportunity.

Israel has tried to maintain its security through brute force and has failed everywhere".

🇺🇸🌎❌🏴 — US Southern Command announces that US Armed Forces conducted an airstrike against vessel operating under a Cartel in the Eastern Pacific

The strike eliminated 2x narco-terrorists.

In Statement, the SOUTHCOM said:
On August 23, under SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan’s direction, Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere executed a lethal kinetic strike on a low-profile vessel operating along established narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific. Confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel's active involvement in narco-trafficking. The operation killed two narco-terrorists.

"When I ordered the establishment of Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere, it was precisely for this purpose: to accelerate, synchronize, and execute lethal actions against these destabilizing narco-terrorist networks. We are committed to imposing total systemic friction on narco-terrorists -- disrupting their operations, dismantling their leadership, and eliminating cartel terror across the region."

Gen. Donovan said. “Let me be clear, we will not permit narco-terrorists to operate with impunity in the Western Hemisphere, nor will we allow their deadly poison to reach American communities.

This operation is a powerful demonstration of our lethal precision, overwhelming capability, and absolute resolve to protect the U.S. homeland," Gen. Donovan said.

🇮🇱❌🇵🇸 — Israel’s Minister of Defense, Israel Katz:
Prime Minister Netanyahu and I have instructed the IDF to adopt a policy of zero tolerance and zero containment toward the launching of kites and balloons from Gaza toward the Negev settlements.

If the launches continue - powerful actions will be taken to put an end to the phenomenon.

A balloon and kite shall be treated the same as a drone - with or without explosives.

I am not Yoav Gallant and I will not allow the policy of October 6 to repeat itself - neither from the air nor in approaches to the fences.

In contrast to the method of recurring raids that he led in the war that allowed Hamas to return again and again to the same places, we acted together with the IDF and built a strong and clean security zone free of residents and terror infrastructure, with the IDF controlling the territory to protect the fighters and the settlements - and we will not allow it to be circumvented in any way.

🇺🇦❌🇷🇺 — Ukrainian President Zelensky on the event of Ukrainian Independence Day:

Our long-range capabilities are cutting into their revenues.

Thousands of our deep strikes have already been seen by Moscow. Tula, Ryazan, Olenya, Omsk -- and dozens of other locations where Ukrainian justice has already reached.

Russia must see more of this justice.

🇺🇦❌🇷🇺 — Ukrainian President Zelensky on the event of Ukrainian Independence Day:

Our sea drones are at work. The enemy had a fleet. It is becoming scrap metal.

But we need to sink more.

🇺🇦❌🇷🇺 — Ukrainian President Zelensky on the Russian-Chinese relationship:
China can no longer remain silent when someone dresses up in a sailor suit and military cap and, badly pronouncing certain words, talks about a nuclear strike.

China must respond. It must cool this fervor. China must prove its ambition to be one of the world’s leaders — not only economically and technologically, but also civilizationally — by making it clear that no dictator has the right to threaten the planet with his old nuclear warheads.

🇺🇦❌🇷🇺 — Ukrainian President Zelensky to Russian President Vladimir Putin:
Putin hopes that we are tired. We know that he is mortal.

He never understood us — and now he will not have time to. You wanted to take all of Ukraine, all of our land.

Instead, you lost your oil refineries, your fleet, your revenues, and an entire generation that you sent into the meat grinder.

You wanted us to disappear from the map. Now you are disappearing from the international agenda of the future civilization.

For 27 years, the ruler of Russia has been talking about greatness, while Russia stands in lines for gasoline.

🇷🇺❌🇺🇦 — Russian President Vladimir Putin:
The enemy is trying to frighten us and disrupt the elections. We will not allow it to do so.

I am confident that this attempt at information and psychological influence on Russian society is also doomed to failure.

We will certainly continue strengthening Russian statehood and the legitimacy of the authorities.

🇷🇺❌🇺🇦 — Russian President Vladimir Putin about Ukrainian strikes on civilian targets:
The Kiev Regime authorities themselves let the genie out of the bottle.

They began striking our civilian enterprises and publicly declared their goal of destroying the Russian economy.

Well then, as I just said, receive the response.

🇷🇺❌🇺🇦 — Russian President Vladimir Putin:
You want to disrupt our logistics? We can address the same question to the enemy.

Well then, retaliatory actions will not be long in coming. You’ll get them.

At the same time, the actions of the Russian army are, of course, much more sensitive and much more destructive.

🇷🇺❌🇺🇦 — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukrainian strikes against Russian soil:
Strikes against civilian, effectively unprotected facilities, and, what is especially important, against civilians, cause economic damage to our country and lead to losses.

The loss of every person is always a tragedy for the entire country.

We know very well that the Nazis of the Second World War, and the neo-Nazis today, experienced, and, judging by everything, still experience, a particular satisfaction, even pleasure, in committing such crimes.

And we see that these criminal acts continue.

🇦🇲🤝🇪🇺 — Armenian Prime-Minister Nikol Pashinyan announces that Armenia will submit an application for EU citizenship:
Armenia must first submit an official application for membership in the EU.

A referendum will be held after the official application is submitted to the EU, a corresponding response is received, and a plan of action is developed.

👑🤝🇮🇱 — Former Iranian diplomat Fereydoon Majlesi:

"All existing international borders, including Israel, should be recognized.

The Arabs have been defeated in every war with Israel and lost land each time.

Vengeance, threats, and war are the rhetoric of neighborhood bullies.
We should be the flag bearers of peace."

In this great effort, we also need the help of the Virgin Mary.

🇦🇲❌🌐 — Armenian Prime-Minister Nikol Pashinyan says that he would be glad if Armenia was kicked out from CSTO:
I can clearly say that we do not plan to intensify our work in the CSTO.

I also know that there are discussions within the CSTO about expelling Armenia.

I will be very pleased if the organization expels Armenia.
In any case, this will free us from the dilemma of whether to leave or not to leave.
