2 EU passports with different names

Hello, imagine you have a passport of 2 EU countries.

But they are on different names...
a) only different first name but last name stays
b) first and last name are both different

Any advantages of a) or b)? Since many in this forum talke about airport biometric scanninc and so on - so even with new name and surname, you are not a "new person without any history" - right?

Any other advantage of having a second passport (which is always good) but also with a different name like explained on a) or b) ?

first of︀ all, there is nothing peculiar about having different name in different passports - making the︁ name more suitable for using in another country/culture is plausible explanation

one practical use case︂ for second passport with another name is for signing up with services that don't want︃ you to have more than one account (sports betting or poker sites, both brick and︄ mortar and online casinos, EMI's, etc.) - the name will almost always do the job︅ for these "soft" use cases

Never give border control officers any reason to think you're anything but an average person‌ passing through. Be normal. They have access to an incredible amount of data and they‍ have a lot of powers to ruin your day, if they suspect you're up to⁠ no good.

There are many, many cameras at many‍ places, many of them connected (directly or indirectly) to an unknown number of databases. (I⁠ am talking about Europe, e.g. China is apparently much worse.) Add to this all the⁤ biometric screening at airports and/or borders.

For everyone interested in this kind of thing, I just learned that with the Turkish‌ CBI program,
one can choose a new Turkish name on the TR passport.

Little anecdote, at my last border‌ crossing I even got a glimpse of the sticker with the password for accessing it,‍
which they just put on their monitor. Sadly, my short term memory isn't that what⁠ it once was.

Oh, and of course national immigration databases, criminal databases, terrorism watchlists, custom⁤ database, PNR records, and various bio-metric databases.

I can confirm this‍ from personal experience, having had some encounters with customs in a few countries, including in⁠ the EU. Ever since the first run-ins, custom agents tend to notice me and check⁤ me the majority of the time. It seems to be country-specific though, as I’ve had⁣ this happen at multiple airports within the same country but not elsewhere in the EU.⁢

Almost all customs agents are a hybrid of tax leeches and overzealous law enforcement with︀ a burning desire to flex their authority at your expense. Armed with a Napoleon complex︁ and too much free time, they’ll seize any excuse to make your trip miserable. Don’t︂ give them a single reason to latch onto you.
