Hi Everyone!

I'm researching Qatar and comparing it with Dubai. I've noticed there's significantly less information and reviews available about Qatar online and on forums.

Actually, I find this "quietness" quite appealing and intriguing. 😎
Looking at the objective advantages of Qatar over Dubai, particularly regarding tax residency, we have:

- Territorial taxation system
- No taxes unless you conduct business within the country (10% corporate tax)
- Permanent Establishment rules only apply to income earned within Qatar, which effectively eliminates concerns if your business operates outside Qatar

* Another pro is very low property registration fee of just 0.25%, and while broker services aren't mandatory, they typically cost 1-2% if you choose to use them

Some concerns I have:

- History of strict restrictions during COVID-19, so in case new pandemic... blak""#¤
- Current cryptocurrency ban

I'm planning to do some on-site exploration after New Year to check things out personally.
I would greatly appreciate if anyone could share insights about specific aspects to consider when looking at Qatar as a potential base. Particularly interested in:

How good are the banks?
What's the quality of residential properties?
How well do delivery services work?
What's the overall service quality like?
How's the internet?
Are there any particular things to avoid?

Looking forward to hearing your experiences and advice!

That's huge problem for 95% on OCT and may be one reason why no one is looking in that direction. They need to wake up and unban crypto if they want to attract digital nomads.

Agreed, but seems like they are slowly starting to move in the right direction. Dubai is one hour away from Doha, so I think this combination of the two is worth considering.

Same as Dubai. You got Standard Chartered, HSBC etc all present.

I stayed in a hotel when there but did visit a friends villa and was impressed. Pretty much again same like Dubai.

Do you mean international or local? In terms of food delivery they have deliveroo etc however with plenty of choice.

Very good and people are friendly.

Fast. They have some of the fastest mobile internet speeds in the world and faster than even UAE I believe. Internet access is also widespread.

Stay central if you want services. Avoid usual stuff you would not want to be caught doing in the Middle East.

P.S I only got this from a short visit. Perhaps there is someone who lives there that knows more. I will have to investigate Qatar more as it does not indeed get mentioned enough probably because of Dubai's presence.

We once had a long discussion about this.

The main problem you have in Qatar is that normally, only 49% can be owned by foreigners. I think they are more and more granting exceptions now:

Well, it's territorial.

So you do the crypto activities outside of Qatar, via outside exchanges/other.
And you operate the company onshore.

So it really should affect you except proceeds of Crypto being spent there, which i imagine is no issue if you convert say via Dubai and transfer fiat to Qatar.

What if they figure out what you are doing really in Qatar ? won't they kick you or your company?

I talked with three real estate brokers in Qatar. It turned out that the property registration fee is 0.25% for locals, but if an expat buys property in a appropriate freehold zone - the developer will take one percent, so it totals to 1.25% though.
