on the future of "altcoins"

I tend to agree, but the guy forgets Monero.
It also doesn’t hurt to buy a bunch of other cryptos, possibly with some rationale and not just randomly. Follow an index, or whatever strategy, and see what happens. I made good profits with shitcoins like BNB and Chronos, not because I liked them but because I followed a strategy.
But you can also make it simple and buy only btc and xmr.

if you suggest holding XMR as a reserve asset (hoping it will appreciate against fiat) then I find it a bad idea for various reasons
XMR as a reserve asset makes perfect sense. It has all what reserves are supposed to have: scarcity, resilience, liquidity, neutrality.
Its tail emission (0.6xmr per block) is permanent, which means miners always remain incentivized. Inflation is now 0.85%, in the distant future it will be 0.44%, when Bitcoin's will be 0%.
Btc bets that a perfect fee market will emerge and stay strong forever. Xmr relies on math: a small permanent subsidy guarantees that miners stay online, keeping the chain secure and usable long after we’re all gone. Xmr is future-proof 😀

I'm not here to argue, I don't care much really...

to expect XMR fill appreciate against BTC is very ambitious

XMR mining is not profitable (might be in future though) and the hash rate can fluctuate very quickly, also potential adversary attack using botnets (something discussed in the community frequently) is something to consider - the network is current not safe enough

it doesn't really matter, it's not speculation.
and the hash rate can fluctuate very quickly,
this is a good feature
also potential adversary attack using botnets (something discussed in the community frequently) is something to consider - the network is current not safe enough
be patient...

Today’s shitcoin might be tomorrow’s bitcoin…
not really
it's as probable as a chance that tomorrow there will be another global network ("alternative internet") built on something else than TCP/IP standard
similar (way smaller scale) example is the fiasco of IPv6

how likely it is English will be replaced by some utilitarian artificial language with simple regular grammar and efficient vocabulary anyone can learn an order of magnitude easier and faster and is suitable and highly efficient for automated processing?
or how likely it is the units of metric and imperial system will be unified and replaced by a new global standard?

these are the closest analogies I can come up with... all these technologies/standards are imperfect, yet the train left long time ago, there is a non-zero but incredibly low probability of a change
