You need to travel to HK if you want a HSBC account, this again should not be a problem for someone who has plenty of money and want to secure them in an offshore account. On the other hand it may be easier to simply open an account remote with some of the many other offshore banks around that allow account opening without visiting the bank. You may stay away from European banks because of the "new" Information EXchange Regulations all EU banks have to apply for in the coming month 2016!
