If traveling from Malta to Italy if you mean you visually show to person at departure‍ gate at airport your passport then yes. But how does that help? They don't scan⁠ your passport they scan your boarding card. The person at departure just checks the name⁤ on passport is close to name on boarding pass. Meanwhile the data on boarding pass⁣ or flight ticket you booked could be any garbage.
