I was just fined (hefty fine) for having a car on my own ground (private property), uninsured. Note that the car is not driveable, ie has no battery. I just don't drive it. I have other ones.
I was told a recent EU Court ruling said that every car must be insured unless the license plates are retired.
I mean it's private ground, it's not rotten or anything, and it doesn't even start/drive, WTF???
I'll have to either pay and be quiet or spend thousands in lawyer for this.
And I should pay taxes for this s**t?
f**k them

This is done in order to protect people from possible cases when a person has‌ no insurance and gets into a car accident and has no money to pay damages.‍ Not the worst law btw

Yeah yeah they told me even clearer... I should even pay insurance for a car‌ that stays inside a locked garage if it has plates on it. A friend told‍ me in UK is already like this.
In case a thief enters my home, steals it and kills someone.
wtf of logic is this. Am I the one paying the⁤ victim for the theft's behavior? Isn't he liable for the damages he makes? Can't take⁣ his goods away? No goods? Then ball and chain, bread and water for life working⁢ free for the community.

What if he steals my chainsaw instead and goes out killing︀ people. Should I insure the chainsaw too?

If they aren't able to check uninsured cars︁ on the road, is it that hard to install a license plate reader that checks︂ automatically if cars passing by are insured or not?
I would understand and tolerate that.︃ But you cannot get into my private ground, fine me for something I am not︄ doing and can't even complain.
I'm really starting to think of selling everything, either hide︅ it or donate the money, and live off benefits. Plenty of helicopter money going around︆ right now, why I should bother working my a*s?

Is this what EU wants? Raise︇ taxes to the small/medium entrepreneurs so that more people can live off benefits?

I see︈ every day a fucking thief/robber caught multiple times, already out of jail, living off benefits,︉ free council house, bills paid.
He goes by my house while I'm hauling a*s in︊ the garden or fixing stuff and laughs at me telling why I work so hard,︋ I shouldn't...
Then I think how much I pay in taxes for my property... and︌ think that part of it is going to pay this guy's life.
Tell me how︍ should I react to that.

I want out of this, it's going out of control.︎ I think the guys in Bruxelles are way too much detached from reality. They live️ in their safe comfy bubble and don't know how much s**t there is around.

I think about it more and more often, these stupid KYC, AML, CFC, income taxes, social security taxes, medical taxes, regulations,⁤ etc

Yep, but you have nowhere to run, especially now

Spending money on lawyers does not help. Since you don't use the car, just retire the plates.

Ok I asked the local office, I was just told if I retire the plates‌ I cannot drive it again,ie it's definitive.
There is no temporary off-road suspension like in‍ UK here. Without plates if I want to drive it again in a few years I can only export it to another country. FFS.
I may get around this with⁤ a specialized insurance for historic cars.
Still the fine is absurd.
I am being fined⁣ for a car not running parked inside private property while a friend was run over⁢ by a drunk old guy (uninsured), that always parked his (daily) uninsured car on the︀ road, right in front of the police station. Only after the crash my friend's lawyer︁ found that he was uninsured, he had a suspended insurance paper, not even police noticed.︂
Do you think the old drunk guy cares about the EU ruling?
the old guy︃ has nothing to pay the €100k+ physical body damages & expenses my friends suffered. He︄ is the owner of the car, he was driving it purposely uninsured. How do you︅ think it's gonna work?
Do you think if you fine him he's going to pay︆ it? I'll tell you what happened. After he ran over my friend, police suspended his︇ driving license for 6 months.
After a few days the guy was still driving the︈ same uninsured car of the crash, this time uninsured AND without license. He was just︉ careful to choose the roads where police doesn't go.
It isn't working.

Also there are︊ gypsy camps close to where I live. They have mercedes, audis, bmws god knows how︋ they get them. I ran a few plates on an online check website and no︌ one was insured... yet they drive them on the roads daily, they have plates, they︍ don't pay property tax on them.
Do you think it's fair or it's a system︎ that's working?
Nah, EU rules are just mental gymnastics written for a perfect world.
If mrs Von Der Leyen and the likes would go for a walk in some EU️ districts... without police escort, maybe they would start to think differently.

Look, I think you're approaching this from the wrong angle.
The more you stomp in s**t, the more it stinks.

One way is to pay the︀ fine, have insurance and spend your energy on something nicer.

Another way is to simply︁ ignore the fines / officials, don't pay fine, don't have insurance - just act like︂ a homeless guy who has nothing and ignores letters etc. This is the standard approach︃ of some but it is possible it can backfire in a few years, so perhaps︄ good idea if you plan to leave the country soon.

These two options are pretty︅ good imho, what you are trying to do is something in the middle, being angry︆ because of some fine. That doesn't really help you or anyone, also by behaving like︇ this you are actually giving credibility to some fine and some EU ruling about parked︈ cars...

Perhaps the logic︊ in Italy is - more kids, more welfare. No? cig-:,

What?
I own more than a dozen cars without insurance, some not running, some unregistered,‌ in several European countries, without any problem. I don't understand how you were fined? How‍ did they know your car wasn't insured?

The EU sucks, and you can blame them as you like. Still, this is not‌ about the EU, but Italy.

In many EU countries, a vehicle can be temporarily decommissioned.‍ For that period, no annual vehicle tax and insurance (depending on the insurance company rules). In my country of birth (EU/North Europe), decommissioning can be done online with a few⁤ clicks. Heavy fines though, if the coppers catch you on the road uninsured.

Owning cars⁣ as a hobby/fun is expensive and bureaucratic nowadays. I've given up, and for many years⁢ only driven rentals. That is not trouble free, either.

Rentals are expensive. It's much cheaper to own, but I know it's difficult to manage‌ technical inspections, and renewing registrations when you're traveling. Insurance is much easier, you can dot‍ it online in a few clicks. If you don't mind taking risks, you can also drive with a temporary registration in countries different from the registration country.

Totally relate... When this utter s**t was introduced in my country I made HELL when‌ handing in my plates! Completely indecent, unneccessary in all ways & really a sign of‍ everything going the way of the Soviet Union!

In my old country its even an illegal law, as there is a LONG precedent of the signs themselves NOT representing a⁤ document issued by the state, but merely a representation of the registration number registered in⁣ their databases. This goes way back to before the war, and has been a debate⁢ going on amongst people doing classic cars for ages, and normally they'd get away with︀ using any plate representing the number if pushing it.

But now? No one of the︁ corrupt politicians tearing everything down even bother with legality, they just brute force it... Probably︂ been heavily bribed by the insurance industry.

Personally I'm happy I got away just in︃ time!

I always battle these things legally and all the way to court if I have‌ to. It's a matter of principle. Let them work for that money!
