I got a new card 2 months ago. I've been using it 50% wirelessly when paying for something. In total I've used 20-30 times including wireless payments. Several times I withdrew money.

It was in the original country and in a new one.

I kept it in a wallet and moreover in a special plastic cover.

One day it stops to work. I try 10 ATMs, 10 shops, over the next several days... errors everywhere. As if it was a hardware problem. I call to a bank and they say "your chip has gotten broken". I don't know if they guessed it or were actually able to see in their system.

the chip looks normal.

How can this be?

I have cards that are waaaaayyyyyy older, their chip are scratched - no problem.

A couple of times in a shop after a payment they also used its magnetic strip to enter data into their POS. For some reason.

i have normal plastic card that not accepted by all atms unless the slot is compact and tightly press the card, it's works with some only . some issuers will have more of low quality cards because the design is not precise or in your case this chip is bad .

Not all cards are made the same. There are different issuers and manufacturers of cards and chips. Even if the damage isn't always visible, there might be damage to the chip.

That, plus sometimes something just goes wrong in the manufacturing.
