New fireworks regulations have recently been adopted in Latvia. Their apparent aim is to prohibit the use of fireworks on New Year’s Eve at 23:00 local time, which corresponds to 00:00 Moscow time, i.e. Moscow New Year. Those who choose to set off fireworks at 23:00 may face fines of up to 1,400 Eur. The issue is regarded by local politicians as highly sensitive.
