In a complete disconnection from reality, French President Emmanuel Macron accused foreign leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, of spreading misinformation about the violent Islamist riots caused by immigrants sweeping France, claiming that AI-generated images depicted events that never occurred.
Speaking in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday, Macron condemned foreign politicians for exploiting France’s unrest ahead of elections, describing their comments as unacceptable and stupid.
Macron stated: We’ve seen AI-generated images depicting scenes that never actually happened in France. We’ve had people claiming that we were invaded by hordes of migrants and Islamists, which is completely false.
Asked whether he was referring to Trump, Macron replied: Among others.
He added that foreign leaders were using France for their own political campaigns and declared that those speaking badly about the country don’t love France.
His remarks followed statements by Trump, who blamed immigration for the unrest, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described the violence as an invasion of extremist Islam.
Macron acknowledged that genuine riots and looting had occurred but maintained that some circulating images and claims were fabricated. He did not identify which specific AI-generated videos foreign leaders had allegedly believed or shared.
