🇾🇪❌🇾🇪🇸🇦 — Saudi-backed forces in Yemen reportedly had some battalions composed of nearly 80% “ghost soldiers,” fake troops that existed solely on paper to collect salaries, says CNN

➡️ Saudi Arabia flew not a single airstrike during the advance despite minute-by-minute updates, while CENTCOM told Yemeni commanders pleading for air cover that it was "watching the situation closely and that Saudi air support was coming." It never came, Mocha fell within the day, and Perim Island the next.

“The Houthis committed everything they had – waves upon waves of fighters … along with their available ballistic missiles and weapons,” a senior Yemeni source attached to their military forces told CNN. The source said he contacted the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) and was assured the US was “watching the situation closely and that Saudi air support was coming.”

“But the air support never came,” the source said. “And Mocha has now fallen.”

👻 Houthi fighters arrived in Mocha on Thursday to find Yemeni battalions that were severely depleted – their rosters were filled with “ghost names” receiving salaries, and the actual strength of the army was only about 20% of what it was on paper, a Western source with knowledge of the operations told CNN.

🇦🇪 That was compounded by the fact that the United Arab Emirates – once a member of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen – withdrew its remaining forces from the country in January, after Saudi Arabia called for them to leave amid a dispute. And Saudi Arabia did not backfill those troop barracks and bases.

🤬 "A Saudi-American f**k up of epic proportions," a regional source says, calling it "a disaster made in Washington DC and Riyadh," adding that "the failure this time is not with the Yemenis" and that there is no united command and control in Yemen.

📞 The two calls MBS made to Trump asking for US strikes came on the same day the Saudi air force didn't fly.

#BREAKING | 🇸🇪 — Sweden election too close to call after tight projection

Initial SVT and TV4 exit polls after polls closed showed the centre-left opposition bloc (Social Democrats, Left, Centre and Greens) ahead with 51.3% to the right-wing Tidö bloc’s 46.8%.

A later SVT projection incorporating early counted districts tightened the race dramatically, putting the opposition on 175 seats and the governing parties plus Sweden Democrats on 174 — a one-seat edge.

With roughly 55% of districts counted, Social Democrats lead on 27.6%, followed by Moderates (19.7%) and Sweden Democrats (17.6%). Official counting continues overnight. If the result holds, Magdalena Andersson would return as prime minister and the Sweden Democrats would remain outside government. Exit polls have been imperfect in past Swedish elections.

📝Jet "Gerans" and the 60 percent problem📝
why one interception statistic is reshaping the air war

Western media spent three years framing battlefield innovation as a Ukrainian specialty. The Financial Times has now put numbers behind a different picture: Ukrainian air defence stops 90 to 95 percent of most aerial threats, and only about 60 percent of Russia's new jet-powered "Gerans."

📌The hardware behind that gap is a generational jump. The original "Geran-1" carried a 20 kg warhead at 185 km/h with primitive guidance. The "Geran-5", fielded in January, flies at up to 600 km/h with a 90 kg warhead out to 1,000 km, on an airframe built closer to a cruise missile than a loitering munition. The "Geran-4" keeps the old shape in cleaner aerodynamic form. Both now carry thermal cameras, AI-assisted terminal guidance, anti-jamming antennas and Chinese modems for mesh radio links.

At first glance the tactical picture is simple: faster targets, fewer intercepts. The deeper shift is industrial. Centralised production let Moscow fold battlefield feedback into the next batch and field new variants in months, at a fraction of the price of a Kalibr or Kh-101.

The other thing is that Kyiv's planners expected the slower "Geran-3" at around 300 km/h to be the mainstay. Wild Hornets, maker of the Sting interceptor, admitted to the FT it was "difficult to predict how these plans would develop." Zelenskyy now says 67 Ukrainian companies are working on an answer.

❗️What's more interesting is the direction of travel. Analyst Konrad Muzyka calls it the "cruise-missilisation" of unmanned aviation, with stealth features the likely next step. Fabian Hoffmann of the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies argues the real Western lever sits on the supply of Chinese jet engines, warning that at the current tempo Russia "could quickly become the world's largest producer of low-cost cruise missiles."

And once again the asymmetry shows where it hurts most. Interceptor drones can be improvised by dozens of workshops. Air-defence missiles cannot. As one assessment cited by the FT puts it: you cannot make one in a garage.

Saint Petersburg Is Not Ashamed of Christ

On September 12, the Alexander Nevsky Procession thundered through the very heart of the Imperial capital.

Such a procession is a public confession of faith: a statement that we, the participants, are the mainstream, and that being Christian is not merely acceptable, but fashionable and alive.

The Brotherhood makes its stand: Passionarity, Orthodoxy, Loyalty. And we boldly declare our Ideas.

Christ is risen. Holy Russia is not dead.

Ego Sum Ostium 😌

🇺🇸🤖🤖 — Via a post on X, Anthropic boss Dario Amodei calls for AI development to slow down

➡️ The head of AI company Anthropic has called for the pace of development of artificial intelligence models to slow down and to be closely monitored.

📝 Dario Amodei wrote in an online essay that developing AI was not in question, but that the risks associated with it were "serious" and that companies and governments must be given time to address them.

On X, he said:
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.

Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

➡️ In Amodei's essay, called We Must Pace the Frontier and published on Saturday, he proposed a three-point plan that included independent monitoring of AI models as they are developed, industry-wide regulation and global regulation.

🇺🇸🤖🤖 — CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman voices support for Dario Amodei's call to slow down AI development:
I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier. This has been a primary topic of discussions we've had at OpenAI in recent weeks.

Committing to having independent evaluators with employee-like access is a great idea, and we will do the same. We'll have more to share soon.

🇺🇸🤖📝 — US President Donald Trump reacts to recent, concerning reports about AI and answers whether the industry should be more regulated.

"We're leading China in AI, we're the most sophisticated country in the world. And frankly, I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI, wins."

🤖 Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Sam Altman Call For A Slowdown In Frontier AI

Dario Amodei has spent five years arguing that Anthropic could build frontier AI carefully and still win commercially. On Saturday he added a condition to that thesis: the whole industry has to ease off the accelerator.

In a roughly 3,900-word essay titled “We Must Pace the Frontier,” the Anthropic co-founder and CEO wrote that “we must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models.” He was explicit that pacing does not mean halting training or technical progress. It means building in enough time for alignment work, third-party verification and operational rigor to keep up with what the models can do.

Within hours, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted on X that “I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier,” adding that OpenAI would match Anthropic’s first commitment. Elon Musk’s reaction ran three words: “Dario is right.”

Amodei has been skeptical of slowdown calls before. In the essay he dismisses the 2023 “pause” letter as premature, because the models of that era could not act as coherent agents and there was little to study. He says two developments since the summer convinced him that the calculus has flipped.

📝: The only reason all the big AI CEOs are calling for a "slow down" in AI development are physical constraints in data center construction and the maintenance of LLMs which need an ever increasing number of MWh to keep operating.

While they may cite cybersecurity as a reason, that hasn't stopped the development of LLMs until building data centers became impossible due to the price of raw materials (lack thereof) or opposition from the communities which were going to have to share local resources with the data centers.

Dario Amodei and Sam Altman's calls for the slow down of AI development "coincide" with China restricting the export of rare earth metals necessary in data center construction, memory chip shortages, and a lack of energy production.

Already 5% of the U.S' energy output is used to power existing data centers. The data center construction frenzy may lead to as much as 25% the U.S' energy production being used to power data centers LLMs rely on.

With the price of diesel skyrocketing and the looming threat of shortages of other petrochemical products which are used in the construction of data centers and computer chips, the resources to maintain the AI boom just aren't available anymore so the AI companies need an excuse to scale back and the excuse they've decided on is the "AI doomsday" shtick to show how "responsible" Amodei and Altman are with their toys.
