🇺🇸❗️🇧🇷⚖️ — OFFICIALLY A POLITICAL PRISONER: A U.S. federal judge concluded that an American immigration record that was used as the basis for Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes' decision to order Filipe Martins' pretrial detention in 2024 was FRAUDULENT

“There was a false record entered into the Border Patrol systems that significantly affected an individual. The government acknowledges its falsity and seriousness,” the judge stated during the hearing, noting that Martins was “detained as a result” of the false record and “has the right to know how this happened and who was responsible for it.”

📝 In January, Martins filed a lawsuit in the United States against the U.S. Department of State and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to determine who created the false record.

⁉️ The information indicated that the former international affairs adviser to Jair Bolsonaro's administration (2019–2022) had entered the United States on October 30, 2022, during the administration of Democrat Joe Biden.

👨‍⚖ In February 2024, Moraes ordered Martins' pretrial detention based on this record, which, according to the STF justice, demonstrated an intention to flee justice. Martins' defense, however, argued and presented evidence that he was in Brazil during the period in question and that the information entered into the U.S. immigration system was false.

‼️ In a statement sent to Gazeta do Povo, Martins' lawyer, Ricardo Fernandes, said that his client “is a political prisoner, persecuted by a system that first constructed the accusation and then sought evidence to justify it.”

“To imprison him for six months, they used a provisional list, ignored official evidence that he remained in Brazil, and relied on a false immigration record, whose falsity is now undisputed even by U.S. authorities. This was not a simple bureaucratic error: it was a state falsehood instrumentalized to deprive an innocent man of his freedom,” Fernandes stated, adding that the U.S. court's conclusion “exposes the scale of this scandal and now reinforces, with the documents available to everyone, what the defense has denounced from the beginning: there was persecution, abuse of power, and lawfare.”

“The truth did not emerge now; thanks to courageous and independent journalism, it became public and impossible to hide,” he added.

#NEWS | 🇺🇸 🍏 🇮🇪 — Apple paid $17.1 billion in taxes to Ireland in its fiscal year ending September 2025 — approximately 40% of its $43.2 billion worldwide income tax total.

The figure, disclosed in Apple’s first country-by-country filing under new EU rules, includes a substantial one-off payment of roughly €13 billion ($15+ billion) in back taxes ordered by the EU’s top court in 2024 over a long-running state-aid case.

Ordinary accrued Irish taxes were far lower; Apple noted the cash payments to Ireland were “significantly higher” due to the release of escrowed funds.
