🇺🇸🤝🇧🇷⚡️ — Former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) received a Green Card in the United States, granted by the administration of President Donald Trump
➡️ The measure guarantees the former lawmaker the right to live, work, and study in the country indefinitely. The benefit was also granted to his wife, Heloísa Bolsonaro, and the couple's two children, Geórgia and Jair Henrique, aged 5 and 2, respectively.
➡️ The decision came after an application submitted more than a year ago and grants rights similar to those of U.S. citizens, except for voting rights. The approval comes at a time of heightened diplomatic tensions between the governments of Brazil and the United States. Recently, the Trump administration imposed a new 25% tariff on Brazilian products.
💬 Journalist Paulo Figueiredo, an ally of Eduardo, celebrated the Trump administration's decision:
— Eduardo is now protected by the U.S. Constitution. (...) Any act of persecution or censorship, for example, against him, could fall within the same context as the actions that have already led to U.S. sanctions against Brazil — he stated.
❗️ With Eduardo Bolsonaro's new immigration status, the possibility of extradition to serve a sentence in Brazil becomes even more distant. U.S. law now provides legal protections to the former lawmaker while he is on American territory.
