Does anyone know if its possible to open a personal or business bank account in China without a physical presence of the owner? Would any banks accept a employee representing me?

Out of interest what is your reason for wanting to do so? Maybe there are alternatives as capital controls exist you know.
I seem to recall that Ping An Bank used to let foreigners open savings/deposit accounts remotely but that might have changed by now.
It's not a very attractive place to bank as a non-resident foreigner, largely due to the strict capital control @Martin Everson mentioned.
