Hey everyone

I am looking for books on offshore entities and arrangements, particularly related to‌ asset protection. I am looking for material on possible asset protection structures and techniques, not‍ tax planning. Expenses are not an issue as I am looking to explore this area with a view to eventually making a profit as an entrepreneur.

Any recommendations would be⁤ greatly appreciated 🙂

Thanks all!!

Unfortunately the few books on the subject only give a generic overview and are of‌ little use. It is a highly specialized subject that requires years of study and practice,‍ this is why we should better hire good lawyers instead of random “experts”

That does seem to be the case. All I have found so⁤ far is fairly generic. However, there must be something written somewhere on specific structures and⁣ techniques.

You can try this one
books.google.com/books?id=t0HQDHooQRwC&pg=PT1&dq=behind+the+veil+oecd&ei=rMRoSYejJpicMqjs6MkK#PPA15,M1

It's an very old book mostly oudated. But there‌ has not been anything like this in newer time.

I have that one saved on the Desktop, but haven't given it a read yet. Assumed‍ it was way too outdated, but I'll give it a look. Thank you Pesto!

I do not necessarily disagree with your point, but I recommend you check out a law school library and search for books on Asset Protection. You might be surprised.⁤

Which is not to say that you can simply read a︀ book and immediately become an estate/asset protection planner. I do agree with you on that.︁

Ok @JohnnyDoe, but there is no law school course (that I am aware of) which‍ teaches asset protection using offshore structures. As a recent graduate, if such a course existed, I would have taken it... lol.

Typical law school courses like Trusts, Taxation, International Taxation,⁤ Bankruptcy only touch issues of asset protection briefly...

hahaha I want to learn Money laundering and tax avoidance, what where should I sign‌ up rof/%

There is a lot of information around here on the forum, if you spend‍ time reading some of the threads around here you will figure out that 1+1 sometimes is 2

You should⁤ start with an internship in a law firm that handles such matters, find a mentor⁣ who practices in this area and try to become his junior. You will be given⁢ tasks such as researches, attendance to conferences, case preparations etc and you will gain a︀ lot of knowledge. Eventually you will become proficient in the matter and come back here︁ selling your services 😉

In your opinion, is OffshoreCorpTalk⁣ a good place to start and grow an offshore services business? Doing so is my⁢ overall goal, but I am still trying to fully learn the practice and how the︀ industry works.

It depends. This is a Eurocentric forum. So, if you plan to live or work in Europe (or⁤ eventually offer offshore services to Europeans), then I cannot think of a better place to⁣ begin learning than with an OCT membership.

If you are an American or wish to⁢ offer offshore services to Americans, then not so much.

For sure‌ it is

What kind of services you want to offer? I⁤ would suggest that you don’t try to offer corporate services and bank accounts, the market⁣ is saturated and you won’t make good money. You should instead focus on providing high⁢ quality and qualified advice

I don’t think it’s really Eurocentric, it seems that most︃ Europeans have already left or are planning to do so.
For god’s sake don’t even try to do that or the feds︆ will go after you and might even shut down the forum! Aiding and abetting or︇ even RICO charges will end your new career soon.

What are you talking about? There are plenty of lawyers and CPAs who specialize in⁤ offshore services for Americans. In fact, in some respects the offshore world is far easier⁣ to navigate for Americans than for Europeans.

For example, under the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion⁢ and the Physical Presence Test, all an American must do is stay out of the︀ U.S. for 330 days to earn their first $112,000 in earned income tax free. There︁ is no need to worry about establishing residency elsewhere or tax residency requirements.

Thanks for this @JohnnyDoe!

I'd like to offer offshore asset protection services, utilizing corporate⁤ and trust structures. I feel that asset protection services would be the best way to⁣ start, as I am not yet sufficiently knowledgeable in tax optimization. I am much more⁢ knowledgeable of Trusts, Corporate Structures, Bankruptcy/Insolvency, Estate planning, than I am of tax planning.

Thanks for the advice on how to start! I am looking for advice from wherever I︀ can get it right now. How exactly does one go about providing such services over︁ the internet?

I think he's referring to things like this:︈

USA v. Kevin Wessell: Petition to Enforce IRS Summons ('Wessell Group Investigation')
