i emailed an offshore bank located all the way in azerbaijan and they told me something that doesnt make any sense! i told them that i was born and live all the way in belize and even at that they told me that if i wanted to open an offshore bank account with them that they would still report me to fatca! is it possible that they could have made a mistake by telling me this? whats going on here? i thought that fatca only pertained to american citizens and legal permanent residents of the u.s.? did they make a mistake? can someone please tell me whats going on here by them telling me this? thank you.

Azerbaijan voluntarily signed up to AEOI information exchange and will start implementing CRS later this‌ year. What's strange is that no-one even asked them to do that - they volunteered.‍

It's an okay banking jurisdiction, but if your goal is to hide your money from⁠ the tax authorities in a CRS compliant country, don't.
