If they had used common sense or even read my posts they would have known years ago to stay the hell away from Spain if you have any money. Ignore the Beckham Law tax trap etc and just stay the hell away and visit when you need to.
Hacienda chasing people is a national pass time like gladiatorial combat during the Roman empire. The working class gather to watch the latest rich person get impaled by the hacienda while they salivate at their misfortune whether warranted or unwarranted.

Do Hacienda get paid bonuses based on how much money from fines and penalties etc they recover? They seem very motivated ns2.

2 According to Spanish law, if Hacienda says you how X euros, and you want to sue, you have to pay X euros in an escrow account before you can sue
So they make up incredibly high amounts that you theoretically owe, even when they know you don’t owe anything, but you can’t afford to block that much money for 5 years (average resolution︀ time) and then say “give us 30% of what you “owe” and let’s call it︁ a day.
Given this, I’d rather deal with the mafia.
