I think because they have to report your incoming transfers of the account you open with this bank to your local tax auth. it seems to be standard for most banks around. I don't know if they really report it or just ask for it because they must!!

I own a Cyprus company that was registered for VAT in 2013 has been working fine for me since ever. You just need to sign a new Cyprus company and then apply for VAT registration once the company is duly incorporated. Takes a few days to get your VAT number!

My votes go to Bank of Cyprus and Piraeus Bank they both are great banks facilitating all what you need for your day to day banking needs. Haven't so far not had a single issue with both of them holding an account for 2 years!

Also some of the banks don't like Internet business any longer because of such asses that didn't provided real information! You may stick with such banks that are still allowing this business which is the future and I wonder how long they will reject such!

It's not a problem to register a Cyprus company non resident (I own such an entity) it is a problem to do that after you start trading, at least I got informed it was not possible to do later if I traded resident already.

If you ask me I would go for a Trust or Foundation and ask the Agent to provide you with all the mandatory people (trustee, protector etc.) for your setup, open an offshore account and let them manage it, how to go about the paypal account I don't know how this works with a foundation or trust...

I would say it's all over the world the financial institutions and banks have to tighten and straighten their compliance with International laws to stay out of any responsibility if someone is doing something they should do.
