Euro Pacific bank is a scam

More than a decade with rates at basically 0%, as soon as rates started climbing they took our money. Now with rates at +5% every party involved in the liquidation process is making money off of our money, that's the reason why no one wants to this situation to be over. Peter, I'm still...

Euro Pacific bank is a scam

That's a very good question, but the Receiver has never told us anything other than "he can't get the money out of Novo bank." It would be nice if he told us why Novo bank is not releasing the funds, and more importantly, what is he doing about it, has he hired a lawyer in Portugal to try to...

Euro Pacific bank is a scam

I don't know if there are other problems, but Novo bank not releasing the funds is the main one. Unfortunately the Receiver doesn't feel the need to inform us.

Euro Pacific bank is a scam

I understand that it's easy to blame the Receiver, but I do not believe the Receiver is dragging out the process. He would have returned the funds to customers last year, had he been able to get the money out of Novo bank. Either way, I do believe that when the Receiver wrote that the...

Thailand's soon to launch Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

I understand that after 183 days you're officially a tax resident, and you'll pay taxes only if you remit some money into Thailand. However, according to my Thai tax advisor there are no taxes on ATM withdrawal. Question: Has anyone ever had to pay taxes on ATM withdrawal (obviously with a...

    The Johnny Doe IBKR portfolio

Vanguard came up recently with a long report in which they expect an average return of 5% during the next decade (adjusted for inflation). Goldman Sachs forecast is also 5% for the next decade. Although at the end of the day nobody knows, but it doesn't seem that inflation is coming down to 2%...

More like 7%, let's not forget inflation. I seriously doubt the next decade will return that 7% average. Enjoy the ride...

    Spain residency without tax residency?

What nobody tells you is the amount of Brits that get caught every year doing exactly what you've mentioned. During Covid a lot of them came to Spain and stayed for more than 6 months and got caught. Renting a place without documentation or a contract is only something that you can expect from...

    Spain residency without tax residency?

Not so fast my friend.... If you go to Spain you have to stay somewhere, a hotel or an Airbnb, they all have to report to the police on a daily basis. Even if you find a beautiful Hooker and you want to rent a room for one hour, they will ask for your ID so they can fill out a form that by law...

    Are holidays already kicking in?

Stay away from Spain, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal during the summer unless you like to wait.....and wait....at every restaurant and every holiday attraction. For sure the best place to stay during the summer is at home, far from all the tourist resorts, unless you're a masochist.

    Assange Released

Assange has said that he is going to continue with WikiLeaks....., 7 years at the Ecuador embassy, 5 years in prison, and he hasn't learned the lesson. Let's see if he truly puts his money where his mouth is this time around.

    Spain residency without tax residency?

If anyone is looking to spend time in Spain and not pay taxes, make sure you stay less than 183 days per year, and make sure you pay taxes somewhere else. If you don't pay taxes in another country, you will end up having to pay taxes in Spain. And if you open a bank account in Spain, the bank...

Which countries can I apply for a driving licence, without releasing mine?

It will depend on the country where you used to have residency, some will have no problem issuing a new license, others won't. I've done it a few times and never had a problem, nobody asked me if I was still residing in the country, they just issued a new one. At the end of the day, how many...

What a long list, pretty much every island in the world. Thanks for that!

Where would you move if you had a Family?

I was there last year, in September, it's still really nice. Cheaper than Spain when it comes to groceries and life in general, but finding an affordable long-term rental is challenging, for sure more expensive than in the south of Spain. Too much demand for rentals given the success of the NHR...

Where would you move if you had a Family?

Yes, no capital gains tax on foreign financial assets, and no taxes on foreign income. I couldn't move to Portugal before, but I can move now and live tax free, but I don't think I'll end up moving to Portugal, finding an affordable long-term rental is challenging, at least in the South (Algarve)

Where would you move if you had a Family?

I spoke to a Portuguese lawyer last week, that's what he said. There are others perks, but I only talked to him about foreign capital gains and income. Do a search, "New NHR", you'll find plenty of articles.
