EU warns Ireland's golden visa is vulnerable to tax abuse, mainly one nationality

Ireland's visa-for-investment scheme was highlighted by a new European Parliament report as excessively vulnerable to abuse such as opening the door as a vehicle to facilitate tax avoidance.

An EPRS study estimated that, between 2011 and 2019, over 132 000 people secured residence or citizenship in EU Member States via CBI or RBI schemes.

Over the same period, the total investment inflow from these schemes was estimated to be at least €21.4bn. Non-EU countries with visa-free travel to the EU also offer and promote CBI with the bonus of such visa-free travel.

To all who are leaving the EU: Please give up your citizenship. We don't want to have to pay your social welfare and hospital costs for cancer treatment etc. from our taxes if you fail abroad. 😉

I will make sure to milk it till the last eurocent.

Malta is resisting the EU pressure to stop its CBI program. They may join Hungary and Poland in resisting against the EU's continuing interference with the sovereign rights of its members.
Malta rebuffed EU calls to stop selling citizenship on Wednesday, telling the European Commission that the granting of citizenship falls within the national competence of a member state "and it should remain as such". The Mediterranean island's reaction came after the European Commission said it had issued a "reasoned opinion" spelling out why Malta needs to stop selling citizenship, and warning of court action if the practice continues.

"The Commission considers that the granting of EU citizenship in return for pre-determined payments or investments, without any genuine link to the member state concerned, is in breach of EU law," the Commission said.

I mean, can anyone blame them?

The constant push for tax harmonisation, incoming regs on gaming and financial services (grey areas that EU didn't regulate in the past, that Malta leveraged), and it's a island with god-level transportation costs - so expansion into mainland EU is a no go... how the hell are they supposed to grow their economy?

Expansion into Africa/Middle east might be the only way forward; or trying to mess with other grey-areas until the EU brings down the hammer.

Good on Malta thu&¤#. EU does not want to stop with CBI they want to go after non-dom schemes in EU. EU even last year labelled Greece's and Italy's non-dom schemes harmful tax practices 😕. Thats why I would avoid both schemes. They could be cancelled at any point sadly.

EU Tax Observatory says Greek non-dom system is ”˜harmful'

Aren't countries supposed to be independent? Why is the EU constantly breathing down their necks? They're constantly overstepping their boundaries... it's almost like they don't want to be a union anymore but a federation!

They all knew what they were signing up to:
Command centre of the EU is Berlin. History tells it all!

You got their end goal. Greece, Italy and pretty much every other Eastern European country will have to stay on their knees and be the source of cheap labour and goods for the more industrialized western EU nations.

Yup we should learn from history. Seems it may also be military command centre 😉.

A good article summarizing EU legal actions against the CBI programs of Cyprus, Bulagria, and Malta:

This article shows once again the ignorance of the EU and it's Bruxelles bureaucrats:
  • "Every person that holds the nationality of an EU Member State is at the same time an EU citizen. EU citizenship automatically gives the right to free movement, access to the EU internal market, and the right to vote and be elected in European and local elections" -> Wrong! Many EU-countries prohibit their own citizens from participating in local and national elections when they are not a permanent resident in that country.
  • "European values are not for sale": What are these values 🙄

Well, you have had since 1984, when St. Kitts and Nevis began the first CBI program. Tax maximization and enforcement laws are now growing exponentially (much like technology) because social welfare states are quickly approaching bankruptcy. The need for defense spending will only make things worse. So, if you want a CBI passport, now is the time to act -- before it is too late.

And yes pretty much everything China is doing with social score etc will be coming to EU at some point smi(&%.

In Canada many provinces are already going forward with a digital ID that centralizes every information about you, from your vaccination status to your education. It will become the norm to open a bank account or even rent an apartment. Either you're part of the grid where they know absolutely everything about your activities or you'll be homeless real quick is their goal.

Right before they bring digital wallets and the digital dollar where they can basically know your every spending habit without passing through a court order, and would enable them to freeze your assets at will the moment you do something they dislike, like criticize the government online.
