I like weekends in Barcelona. Good hotels, restaurants, sightseeing etc. Also good strippers. None of this can be found in Genova.

I was⁤ only in Genoa a couple of times. And well, it is a different place from⁣ what is around. You are probably right. But hey, I was just saying that there⁢ are options to avoid getting bored if what you want is something different from what︀ you have in Monaco.

It is believed that Monaco is a horrible place to live︁ because it is small, it has traffic and things like that, and I don't see︂ it any different from living in other places.

It is not very different from living︃ in Marbella, for example. Of course, you have to like that lifestyle.

What I want︄ to say, of course I prefer to live in other cities than in Monaco. If︅ I were in another stage of my life.

Now living somewhere else in Europe means︆ high taxes.

Out of curiosity @JohnnyDoe , which city would you live in or which︇ one do you consider the most optimal according to your tastes and preferences?

Monaco is perfectly fine if you like a police state and you live in the Prince Castle - or at least in one of the few detached houses. For the price of a small apartment you can buy a decent mansion with your own beach in the Caribbean and still have money left to travel by plane to London, NY, Miami or Madrid whenever you like.

If you are a Spanish speaker, why don't you consider the Dominican Republic?

Personally, I wouldn't live in any city even if you paid me. I'm a countryman who enjoys cutting his own lawn, grow fruits and veggies and take care of animals. Closest neighbor has to be at least 1km far.

Sanremo is definitely among the places to spend many weekends.

The Dominican Republic was︄ among my options for a long time, because it also has territorial taxes (I think︅ so).

However, I put that idea out of my head for several reasons:

- High︆ crime rates. I am a person who likes to go out to dinner, take a︇ walk or play sports outdoors, and I don't know if the Dominican Republic is the︈ safest. I only know it from being on vacation as a teenager in Punta Cana︉ at one of those all-inclusive resorts. But I understand that is a bubble.

- It's︊ very far from my family. I like to spend a weekend with my family in︋ Barcelona from time to time. It is obvious that I can travel but they should︌ be trips of longer duration, instead of weekends.

- Hurricane season. I'm probably exaggerating because︍ I've never experienced a hurricane up close. But the idea terrifies me. Just thinking about︎ a hurricane would make me take a flight to the safest possible destination. But as️ I say, these are situations that I have never experienced, they are probably not that‌ dangerous.

- The damn mosquitoes in the Caribbean. When I was in Punta Cana, I‍ remember them flying towards me making a noise like they were surface-to-air missiles.

Although there⁠ are also many other things that I like, as you already mentioned.

Urban legend. Stay away from a couple of areas in Santo Domingo, Boca Chica, and wherever you see many Italians and you will be fine. Also don't mess with local girls.

You can do all that and more in Santo Domingo, or in smaller cities if you prefer like Cabarete or Las Terrenas.

Daily flights from Madrid are convenient, but yes you have to spend many hours on the plane.

No hurricanes in the DR. And anyway if a house is well built and with decent elevation (the real danger is the rising sea level) you will be safe in any Caribbean Island. It's not that at 400kmh (cat 5 hurricane) a concrete house is disintegrated.

Some people are eaten alive, others are ignored by mosquitoes (no-see-ums). Who knows why. They can be managed though with natural remedies. Something you can't do with an annoying neighbor, and things can go really nasty with neighbors (see the Nygard saga in Lyford Cay, Nassau).
