Argentina - Pros Cons

I think everybody that wants more freedom in the world has a dog in this fight. Statists need to⁤ win everywhere, we just need to win in one or a few places! If you⁣ have one or few more places in the world with high personal and economic freedom,⁢ low taxes, small government, these attract capable and freedom loving people and investors and entrepreneurs︀ from the whole world - increasing the freedom and propsperity for everyone.

As these places︁ get prosperous they also have the side effect of showing how misguided all the big︂ state, socialist, lefty ideas are.

Amsterdam and the Netherlands in the 17th century is the︃ classic example of this by the way. Spain, the dominant power at the time, cracked︄ down hard on individual and religious freedom, didnt accept anything other than very strict catholicism.︅ Spain among many other things besieged and crushed Antwerp which was a major trading hub︆ - so all the capable merchants, shipbuilders, bankers, etc that couldnt stand the oppression of︇ Spain fled to the newly independent Netherlands and specifically Amsterdam. So what happened, the Netherlands︈ - while small - flourished in terms of innovation, art, seefaring, banking, trade etc, and︉ became a dominant nation on the world stage, while statist Spain went into decline.

We need more Netherlands basically, it's really important for the world as a whole. (And we︊ already have some, even if partly flawed, like the UAE, Monaco, Switzerland, Singapore, and past︋ ones like US in the 19th and part of the 20th century, Hong Kong before︌ China took over)

Pros = Argentina, the country!⁤

Cons = Argentinians, the citizens! rof/% rof/% rof/% rof/% rof/%
(Not all, of course! People like Marcos Galperín are an⁣ exception)

I go to Argentina quite a bit still, but not as much as when⁢ I was younger! Argentina was one of my favorite countries in the world when I︀ was younger due to the Vedettes 😛

Recoleta, Palermo, Mar del Plata, and Bariloche are my︁ favorite places in Argentina.

I don't even know where to start...but the best I can︂ do is provide Facundo Cabral's monologue "Pendejo" ->

Sadly, my Spanish is NOT at the︃ level where I would dare to "interpret" Facundo's rant from Spanish into English. Besides, his︄ jocosity and sarcasm would be lost in translation.

Milei reminds me of Donald Trump, a true populist, my hopes are not high as‌ with every politician but I really hope I'm wrong
On the other hand it would‍ be awasome if Argentina became prosperous and business friendly and lead other Latin American countries by example

You can't eat hope‌ and hope doesn't pay the bills either. But if all they have is hope then‍ things can get a lot worse.

He told people what they wanted to hear and in December he is in office. Lets see if reality slaps him in the face⁤ as I said IMF and China will deal with him and global markets will swiftly⁣ teach him a lesson if he tries to deviate from reality 😉.

Dollarization is no⁢ silver bullet, despite what Argentina's new president says

of course, like everyone else, it's the only winning‍ strategy in "democratic" elections - those who did not never had their chance

agreed, bitcoinization is

I think unlike previous decades, the right wing will be clearly supported by the US as the anti-china⁤ alliance in Latin America

China warns Argentina severing ties would be 'serious mistake'

https://www.reuters.com/world/china-says-would-be-serious-mistake-if-argentina-cuts-ties-2023-11-21/

China and Brazil are Argentina's‌ biggest trading partners. I reapeat again that it would be economic suicide to cuts ties‍ with China and lose emergency PBOC swap lines they are using to stay afloat. Hostility to Brazil will not help their economic situation either....lol.

Reality after the event is often⁤ a hard pill to swallow like those in UK that voted for brexit 😕

Milei is an academic and economist, Trump is⁤ a rich-kid who inherited his empire. They are worlds apart.

Lets see how well Argentina does by end of his first term if he carries‌ through all his election promises. This thread will be around in 4 years time.

I sincerely wish the people of Argentina all the best however thu&¤#.

“What he wants to implement is what they do in the United States, in Spain, in normal countries,” Quiroga told Al Jazeera before the vote. “What we are experiencing here⁤ is going towards Venezuela, Cuba.”

Milei will face a daunting set of challenges when he⁣ takes office on December 10, including government coffers that are in the red, a $44bn⁢ debt programme with the International Monetary Fund and inflation approaching 150 percent.

He also faces︀ a divided legislature that threatens to constrain him from implementing his radical vision.

Campante said︁ there was a high risk of instability due to Milei’s weak political support and the︂ difficult economic situation.

“He seems attached to economic ideas that are very risky, to say︃ the least – eg dollarization,” Campante said.

“If he doubles down on them, things risk︄ going very badly. If he changes course and chooses a more orthodox and conciliatory approach,︅ then things could be better, but oftentimes characters like him are unable to choose a︆ moderate path.”

100% true!

*BUT* forget this in the Latin American and other similar cultures.‌ The majority of the population believes in this. Not much can be done to "wake‍ them up". If you try to tell them the truth, you become their target! Best to allow them to follow their fate! 🙄

There is an adage I learned in Spain⁤ when I was a kid visiting relatives who lived there.
El que por su gusto⁣ muere, la muerte le sabe a gloria. 😉

I agree that Milei︇ will likely not succeed in his plans, however, I don't think that will be because︈ of Milei and his ideas.

If the only thing he's able to do is removing ARS from the country and‌ start using USD, that's the biggest win for Argentina in almost 80 years so even‍ if that's the only thing he does it will be a full success for the country. Dollarization has worked on all latam countries that tried it and those countries where⁤ USD dollars flow freely on the country too: Panama, El Salvador, Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay, etc...⁣

Yes, and if he can make the country attractive for⁢ crypto-using expats that would mean a win for me.

he's sacking 7k public servants! smi(&%
he just told on tv the country is full︂ of lithium and musk wants it, also US gov...
also said "All state companies must︃ end" smi(&%
and "taxes must be competitive internationally".
he just rewrote a s**t ton of laws,︄ something like 300? and serious ones like commerce etc

and already called for another round︅ just after a week from the above lol
Also has summoned lawmakers for special sessions︆ starting December 26, will send 11 bills to Congress, including reforms to income tax and︇ double taxation rules.

he's going full libertarian to the bone. he abolished the law that︈ wasn't allowing foreigners to buy land...

"Milei’s administration had said it will allow protests, but︉ threatened to cut off public aid payments to anyone who blocks thoroughfares. Marchers were︊ also forbidden to carry sticks, cover their faces or bring children to the protest."
"[...] new protocol allows federal forces to clear people blocking streets without a judicial order︋ and authorizes the police to identify , through video or digital means , people protesting︌ and obstructing public thoroughfares. It can bill them for the cost of mobilizing security forces︍. smi(&%

this is too much fun to watch. I can see this turning to extreme︎ violent riots soon but who knows.

(just don't get the passport/citizenship for now as️ it's non-renounceable, and the next commie government will tax you to death, on your‌ worldwide income!)

interesting read rof/%

they're already calling him fascist lol this guy is cutting‍ everything 😀
my boi hits hard!
