Webdirectory listing, can I get penalized by google?

I just wonder that if a webdirectory let all search results to be crawled, this means each listing generates hundreds of duplicated listings.


Will that really force Google to penalize my website?

Runners just do it. They run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first.
 
It's pure BS, it can't never hurt your website, if it hurts it is the WebDirectory, not the websites listed there.


Sometimes it looks like people don't know what Google is really put their weight on!
 
I would say it depends on the individuel webdir how it is setup etc. many times you wont and I haven't seen prove of any penalty from Google due to this.

Yes, it certainly affects the credibility of the site and gets penalized by Google and other search engines. The best option is not to go for such short term traffic stuffs and instead the webmasters have to concentrate on long term gradual development of the site.
 
Google will penalize for things that appear look like duplications. spiders are smarter then they used to be, they then drop you to the bottom like a rock
