Indian drug maker Strides Arcolab Ltd said it launched a generic version of Roche's anti-viral Tamiflu, used to treat H1N1 swine flu, for retail sales in pharmacies.

Strides has priced its product - Starflu - at 460 rupees for a strip of ten 75-milligrma capsules.

The retail launch follows the Indian federal government's approval of restricted retail sale of oseltamivir, the chemical name for the drug.

Last week, rival Natco Pharma Ltd launched its generic drug NATFLU, pricing it at 480 rupees for 10 capsules.

Shares rose as much as 10.3 percent in early trades in a weak market.
