Now with the American laws that are stricter against off-shore and cyprus companies, is it still a good idea to go ahead and make one? Thanks.

I think with the regulations in the US and the strict laws they have there it isn't any good to establish a company outside of the US for the purpose of conducting business.

The US has several free zones where you pay no to low tax and you can as a US Citizens pretty easy open a company there, it might be the best to go for such an solution to avoid troubles.

However there can be a good reason to go completely offshore even if you live in the US and not to forget, just because you take your company offshore, then it don't need to be mend as a sign of illegal activity.
