Hi, given the crackdown on CBI programs I'm curious how can owning these passports backfire? The only real reason I’m considering getting one is to have a backup plan in case things get unstable in the EU or my home country keeps sliding further into communist-sympathizing extremes.

To be more concrete; if you're an EU passport holder and have a Caribbean passport as a Plan B, meaning you essentially never use it unless things go to shits.

Can it backfire by:
  1. Getting flagged during KYC, AML (world check)?
  2. US (or other countries) not issue visa or rejecting entry even when applying with your EU passport?
Would be ironic if obtaining this passport to get more sovereignty ends up making you less sovereign.

This was the major reason I didn't apply︂ for any of these programs due to being flagged on kyc or aml checks that︃ I knew would come in later. Their advertisements were a dead giveaway.

correct me if i'm wrong, but can't you just *avoid* declaring your Caribbean passport, at‌ least in the case of signing up to financial institutions and what not?

These fears aren’t groundless at all, especially when it comes to the "cheap" CBI programs‌ in the Caribbean.

In my opinion, even though I can’t predict the future, some valid‍ options might include countries such as Turkey, Egypt, North Macedonia, or Jordan. If you’re an EU passport holder, it shouldn’t be an issue that these passports aren’t very strong, as⁤ they can still serve as complementary to yours.

These programs are like honeypots, they get u in then they ask you for your‌ source of funds. If u are legit you are fine, if you can't prove your‍ money source, then it won't be fun

yes of course the countries granting citizenship. And yes the needed funds for the investment‌ plus the entire assets you declare at the time of application.

that's both obvious and it would be a silly thing‍ to launder dirty money through obtaining CBI...

you want to say that you're somehow⁤ obliged to declare your other assets for the application?

Even if KYC-ing with an EU passport? Even when applying for a‍ US (or any other visa) using EU passport?

yes, some programmes require a degree of minimum assets and therefore declaration and of course sof

This is likely to become a moot point as Schengen access is likely to be‌ lost and US visas become unobtainable for these passports. Unless you really like the OECS,‍ most of which are visa free (though St. Kitts now has an ETA - St. Kitts and Nevis eBorder), these things will end up being about as useful as a⁤ Turkish or Egyptian passport.

You can't buy it.‌ If someone says otherwise he is a scammer or bought it 15-20 years ago when‍ it was possible.

CBI is useless when "things go to shits", take COVID for example when borders were closed for tourists.

How difficult / easy‌ is it to obtain it? You have personal experience with it?
