Georgian company > Citizen, does this route work?

Hello all,

I came across something today and wanted to see if you had any insight as to wether or not this theory actually works.

If I set up a company in Georgia, and then employ myself, I can obtain a work permit which can be renewed.

After a few years one can apply for permanent residency, and then after 5 years, I believe, citizenship.

I just wanted to confirm this is correct, and if this would work while one spends less than 183 days per year in the country?

Yes, it is possible to obtain Georgian citizenship by setting up a company in Georgia and employing yourself.

The requirements for obtaining Georgian citizenship are as follows:

• You must have a valid residence permit in Georgia.
• You must have lived in Georgia for at least 5 years.
• You must be fluent in the Georgian language.
• You must have a clean criminal record.
• You must have renounced your previous citizenship (if applicabl

These days temporary residency in Georgia is 10 or 11 years and then permanent residency can be applied for and then citizenship can be applied for - good luck with getting that. I don't think anybody has supplied data on how many foreigners (meaning not Russians, not Ukrainians, not people with Georgian roots or spouses) have ever succeeded to get citizenship. If you know the right people and offer the right investment then maybe doors can swing open. If you invest Euro 300k you can get a 5 year kinda not temporary but not permanent residency permit - but have never read that this type of permit cuts short the waiting time to citizenship. Others might know. For a regular person with some cash and with a Georgian company making a modest amount of income you can start with a 1 year temporary permit that on renewal might be a 10 year temporary permit (if you pass the 'tests') which carries you through to the end of the 10/11 years of temporary residency requirement. Many eyes are on Serbia and their draft law to allow citizenship after just one year of temporary residency (with some not too hard conditions). The draft law has been approved by the government and has been sent in late May 2023 to the parliament for debate etc. Otherwise, I have seen no info yet about how the draft law is progressing so far.

Because the immigration law has been changed in 2019 (due to popular demand)😉
What was too easy before has now become too cumbersome. It is not worth bothering anymore.
