Are EU national ID cards centralized?

Hello everyone,

Do you know if there is an EU database that centralize all the personal info from national plastic ID cards issued inside the Union, just like the verification system used for passports?

I know that banks and EMIs can easily detect a fake/stolen/lost passport, but will they be able to detect a fake ID card if the info is not centralized?

Unless it has changed in the last year, there is no such database at least for the use of the border officials. They don't register the cards anywhere, they just check them for validity, there is no central database for all of the EU countries. But I'm not sure if there could be other ways to detect fake ID cards besides a centralized database.

Maybe they can check online based on your image? If you already have a passport, your image is stored somewhere for cross referencing. Will the EMIs check this as well when you create an online account?

Its limited but one can check below for certain countries that offer checking of ID, Passport or Driving license. Typically useful for checking validity with some countries and that someone is not presenting a lost, stolen or wanted person ID.

If they want and they doubt your identity they can force you to find your passport one way or the other, alternative they will get a police order in your country of citizenship.

Hey Admin, based on what do you think they would doubt my identity? Also, from what I know, passports are not mandatory inside EU, if you're EU citizen.

There are places and situations where a passport is required. As I said if they have doubts if the ID they see is true or they may have a facerecognitaion scanner you can be forced to find your passport or go back where you came from.

I think GDPR restricts to have these kind of databases or releasing information let's say between EMIs and banks.

Document validity check can be done easily by officials at least for Ids and passports but not for driver's licenses for some reason.

what is very important when you "invent" an ID to register anything is to find the algorythim that is used to create
the numbers of the document.
even if there was a central register of EU IDs/Passports a bank would have no access to that info- that would be government only teritory.
they have ways to check the numbers though-google can teach you about these things.
but you can create your ID and run the checks yourself too. and you can find how these numbers are created what are the checksums etc.

Exactly this. You also need a valid Tax ID for EU bank accounts. Also without a central register but with the option of a valid check.

Do we know if this has changed, much has changed the last 2 years since this thread has been created. I would like to know if we are going with the same link and can rest assured 98% or if we need an update from some of the all mightiest ?

I figured it out... even with this tiny database, darks will work well.

Good fake needs to pass a chip test, lamp test and physical inspection in order to pass on a basic check.
More advanced checks would involve checking of the identity in the domestic country. This can be solved with a clone (just copying the name and all data from an original ID) so the data check would match. If they send a copy you are busted since the pictures would not match. Also if they take you in for a fingerprinting you will be busted.
So even with great fakes the chances are 50-50.

No bank or other private institution can do anything of this.

There are no border checks within Schengen. Random documents checks are limited to visual inspection, and a good quality dark will pass it without issues.
