Germany Exit Taxation - December 31st 2021 (EU ATAD Implementation)

My theory is that for instance in Germany politicians know that the social security system will collapse in the future. They are not stupid. There are lots and lots of calculations that clearly indicate that the current setup will not work for future generations. At the same time they know that...

Germany Exit Taxation - December 31st 2021 (EU ATAD Implementation)

And what's interesting is that none of the politicians think of themselves as 'bad'. They are all convinced that the measures that they are implementing are generally for the greater good.

Germany Exit Taxation - December 31st 2021 (EU ATAD Implementation)

I feel like this has been going on for quite a while. The EU is acting like a wife in a marriage that instead of trying to become more attractive to keep you will make divorce as painful as possible so that you feel like you are forced to stay. My 'separation' from the EU certainly has been...

:D I've never been to Romania but would never have thought that someone would say that it is worse than Dominican Republic in terms of shitholiness..

Germany Exit Taxation - December 31st 2021 (EU ATAD Implementation)

I am also glad that I left the EU. It really is a shame though because I think it wouldn't hurt to have another “superpower” next to US / China / Russia. I also like some of the aspects of it (GDPR, focus on human rights, fewer war mongers, freedom of movement, fewer climate change deniers)...

Germany Exit Taxation - December 31st 2021 (EU ATAD Implementation)

Totally serious, see for instance which loosely translates to src: Wegzugsbesteuerung natürlicher Personen (§ 6 AStG) ”“ Drastische Verschärfung geplant Please also not that under the current proposal this immediate taxation would also apply if you move *within* the EU (same source)...

Germany Exit Taxation - December 31st 2021 (EU ATAD Implementation)

You don't need to be a major shareholder. The threshold is owning 1% of a legal entity anywhere in the world (doesn't need to be a German entity).

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this reply. I think it summarizes my situation and the tradeoffs very well. I've been to Switzerland and while the quality of life is very high, the climate definitely is the biggest downside. I've also been to Portugal, so next I'll spend some extended...

That sounds great, but I am not sure about how happy my European clients are if they get an invoice from a company in a jurisdiction that they've never heard of and which is even hard to find on a map :D

That sounds great, any more information about the new program or when it would be announced? With the MM2H program being ended, otherwise there wouldn't really be a possibility for me to stay long-term in KL I guess.

That helps a LOT! Thanks so much for the summary. It indeed sounds like I should spend some more time there to get a feeling for the place. Just out of curiosity, are there any beach nearby that look like the Caribbean ones? (e.g...

I've seen this video before. Great documentary, but underlines that Monaco definitely is outside of my budget :)

Thanks so much for the input, very helpful! So you have multiple home bases? Where else do you spend your time besides KL? As said earlier, I think KL could be a good option for me as well. I haven't spend much time there so it's very hard to tell. Why would you say that the weather is a...

Best combination of high quality of life, entrepreneurial freedom and low taxes

Unfortunately Monaco is currently outside of my budget :( Given the other options I don't think that there is a zero tax country right now that fits well. Which is not a big problem, as said earlier, I'd rather comprise on taxes than on lifestyle.

Thanks for the reply! I like Greece and thought about it as well, however I really dislike bureaucracy and dealing with lots of paperwork in a language that I don't even understand is something that I am not really looking forward to. I think Greece would therefore rather be a good candidate...

I agree with your point. Cyprus was actually quite high up on my list so I went there and spent some time in the different cities. While it isn't my favorite place in the world it wasn't bad at all. I think if I wanted to stay in Europe and optimize for taxation I'd actually relocate there...

Well, I am not saying that it *doesn't* exist in Miami but from what I've seen it is far less extreme than in the other places like the Bahamas or DR.

Agreed and I think in my case it then makes sense to give up “very low” taxation.

Great summary! I see it the same way - if I had a couple million I'd consider, but for now doesn't look like a great fit.

Well, I spent a couple months in Miami / Bahamas / Dominican Republic and from what I've seen you cannot really compare these places in terms of feeling "comfortable" walking around. I know that South Florida has bad areas but for instance in Miami I felt very safe going for a run through...
