US tax residency + Apartment in Spain

Well, based on your responses it seems that Spain is not a great place for that kind of setup. I created another thread (How to avoid creating Permanent Establishment in Europe?) to ask for alternatives.

How to avoid creating Permanent Establishment in Europe?

(this is based on US tax residency + Apartment in Spain) Do you know of any country in or close to (max. 4-5h flight time) Europe where I could work full-time for a European company without running into the issue of creating a permanent establishment? Of course it wouldn't hurt if the...

US tax residency + Apartment in Spain

So, what do you think is the best solution? Simply not rent a flat in Spain / EU at all?

US tax residency + Apartment in Spain

Renting it through the LLC would probably make the situation worse, right?

US tax residency + Apartment in Spain

Well, I would like to spend a substantial amount of time with the client (e.g. 1 week every month) but preferably not live in the country of the client because quality of life there isn't great and Spain is a lot nicer.

US tax residency + Apartment in Spain

Hm, what if I invoice the client directly as sole trader and not through an LLC? Can a sole trader create a permanent establishment? Just to be clear - my clients will be in another EU country, I won't have any clients in Spain.

US tax residency + Apartment in Spain

What do you think about the following setup? - Rent an apartment in US (east coast) - Establish an LLC in US - Use LLC to invoice European company (main / single client) - Pay taxes in US - Rent an apartment in Spain - Spend 7 months per year in US, 5 in Spain, mainly to visit European clients...

Lots of great information, thanks for that. Mont Choisy Smart City looks quite intriguing!

Best combination of high quality of life, entrepreneurial freedom and low taxes

Wow, well doing the flight twice a week would definitely overkill for me. However otherwise Mauritius might be an option, even though the lack of (I presume) Amazon, IKEA, large electronic stores etc. would make it not that appealing to me.

I just checked, UK <-> Mauritius is 11:30h flight time and you did that every other week? Crazy.. Yes I looked into Mauritius but have the feeling that it would be too small, not enough going on and too 3rd world for me. But I might be wrong.

Barbados or Bermuda Open Doors to Digital Nomads/

Sure! Here are my pros and cons: + beautiful beaches + great diving and snorkeling + warm all year round + outside hurricane belt (even though there was a hurricane last year) + people speak English (but with a very strong accent, eg they will understand you, but you will have a hard time ;)) +...

Barbados or Bermuda Open Doors to Digital Nomads/

I spent a couple months on Barbados as well and share some of these experiences. It certainly has some advantages but also a *lot* of disadvantages and I was actually quite happy when I left. May I ask where you have moved to?

USD Account / Personal / Remotely / No Foreign Fees

Why would you think so? I am actually not looking to speculate nor make a profit but simply cut all ties with the EU on an emotional level.

USD Account / Personal / Remotely / No Foreign Fees

Andorra or US works (if that helps..) Interesting! I didn't know that. I just checked and I am actually a customer of Revolut Bank. So that alleviates at least some of my concerns.

USD Account / Personal / Remotely / No Foreign Fees

Well, the issue is that I am not sure if I will be able to consistenly keep more than 100k in my account with them as I will need part of the money to cover living expenses and other investments. Unfortunately I am not *that* rich.

USD Account / Personal / Remotely / No Foreign Fees

Looks quite interesting. 20€ / month is not the cheapest option but at least it looks like they don't charge any foreign currency fees. Do you have any personal experience with them? I looked into HSBC (I actually had an account with them in another country) but heard so many horror stories...

USD Account / Personal / Remotely / No Foreign Fees

I currently don't have a tax residence (nor a real, permanent address really) but I can provide addresses from EU / US / Australia and tax numbers from each.

USD Account / Personal / Remotely / No Foreign Fees

Thanks! Do you think Charles Schwab would accept the address of my US tax consultant? I am pretty sure they wouldn't have a problem with me using it for this purpose. Okay, I actually have a IBKR account. However with them I wouldn't really have the possibility to spend the money, right?! In...
