Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday lowered the threshold for a nuclear strike in response to a broader range of conventional attacks, and Moscow said Ukraine had struck deep inside Russia with U.S.-made ATACMS missiles.
Putin approved the change days after two U.S. officials and a source familiar with the decision said on Sunday that U.S. President Joe Biden's administration allowed Ukraine to use U.S.-made weapons to strike deep into Russia.

Another way to re-phrase this

Authoritarian leader stands alone against a sea of communistic authoritarian leaders.

People are often right to prescribe names to Russia and Putin, for they were always the “bad” society to point at and move on the opposite direction to.

These days though our own societies have moved in a bad direction and socialism-cum-communistic reign of terror has commenced

Therefore it's in my humble opinion neither are good, and as such unless the plebeians in each are unwilling to rise up and overthrow such, the best approach for the rest of humanity is to step back and allow them to destroy themselves.

Therefore a missile here, a missile there is probably in the interest of us sane people watching these imbeciles dig deeper holes whilst trying to carve up the rest of the world into their control orbital ranges.
