If you are registering a Wyoming LLC and applying for an EIN, how long would it actually take to receive the EIN number as a non-US resident? I've seen various answers here. Some says a couple of days some says a week. I asked a registered agent and they told me that it takes 6-8 weeks to get it done and I would need to pay an expedited service fee if I wish to receive it in 2-4 weeks. Does it take that long? Because this is too long!

You can call the tax department and get it faxed to you. I think I got mine after 2-3 weeks from the fax but it took probably 5-6 to finally get the document

Took me about a month in November. For another person I know it took close to 3 months, but this was in tax season and is a worst case scenario.

FAX your EIN application to IRS and then call them after 2 weeks during business hours and provide them with your fax number, they will fax you the EIN. Thats it!!

I opened a company in April 2023 in Wyoming with one of the most well known services out there (IncFile) and I even paid the fast EIN service...i received the EIN in February 2024...it took ages, I contacted support and the IRS a lot of.times and I have just been bounced around

Another reason to do things yourself whenever you can!

Usually it takes 3-4 weeks. You receive it first by fax and the original letter max. 1 week after.

It is not the right way to apply for an non-US resident/citizen with no SSN... See How to Apply for an EIN | Internal Revenue Service

Whatever, but through someone on Fiverr, who actually fills and submits the same form, you can get it in 5-7 days. I used the same guy that someone posted here in the forum like 1.5 years ago and it is legit. A friend also used that service a month ago an he got the EIN in less than a week. You get the EIN along with the SS4, 147c, and cp575.
Your registered agent can also apply on your behalf and it is more expensive and it takes longer.

I do not know how they get it that quick. If they know someone... In any case, it works.

Weird, maybe they apply through another person SSN?

In this case, an US citizen using his SSN applies for an EIN and receives the EIN within minutes and hand it over to you. Later on, you have to fill out Form 8822-B and send it to the IRS to change the EIN Responsible Party for your LLC. This process has become very difficult if the new responsible party (in this case you) is a non-resident alien. IRS has requested ITIN in many of these cases.

Right now the backlog for getting address/responsible party changed is about 5-8 weeks. So, its better to go through the normal non-resident EIN application process and save yourself the hassle.

Just sharing what I did. Just this week I was able to get the EIN online for a NM LLC, I am a non-us citizen but I have an ITIN though, I did get the EIN number for the LLC instantly after the online application, another option is if you have a phone that you can use to call a US Number try applying via phone by calling the international line of IRS not sure if this option would work as I haven't try it but having an ITIN can be beneficial if you are a non-us citizen.
