Belarus now has a nuclear deterrent - this fortunately means it's unlikely to become a US/UK wasteland in a future battle/war.

It was the one thing that has stopped me even considering the nation, cheap/affordable, beautiful, clean, low crime, in Europe but outside of the EU...

Anyone considering property investment there [i'm all ears] either a villa in the wild, apartment in the city, anything really -open to having a nosey.

Don't waste your time.
If you like dictatorships maybe Cuba is better. At least they have pleasant climate and friendly towards tourists 🙂
 
Before the war, it was quite easy to relocate there and set up a business. Local talent pool was good for software engineering and other technical skills. Access to international banking wasn't as easy as western Europe but it could be arranged in most cases. The bureaucracy is bad enough it'd even make an Italian civil servant blush, but with a lawyer/fixer, it's all relatively easy. Very crypto friendly.

As a foreigner, you stick out a lot, and you'll need to learn Belarusian or Russian. Quality of living is average/below average, even if you're wealthy. Corruption is rampant.

They recently simplified the tax system, but raised tax rates in many cases.

That was before the sanctions started really piling on, though. It's less predictable right now.

Days of needing international banking are over, as long as there are crypto on/off ramps you can utilise the decentralised network for operational expenses (int costs).

This tweet only confirms that nothing has changed there since the 1980-s in terms of personal freedom and safety when this joke was popular:
A Russian and an American meet and argue about who has more freedom in the country. The American says: I can stand in front of the White House and shout at the top of my lungs: "Reagan is a fool!" A Russian replies: we have complete freedom too. I, too, can go to Red Square and shout at the top of my lungs, "Reagan is a fool!" And I won't get anything either.

I cannot agree more. These persons who praise such regimes like Russia, Belarus, don't even have idea what is the reality of life there.
They just see "propaganda" youtubers or naive tourists and pretend they know something

I've lived outside of the West for a very long time, with toes in it.

I don't believe Westerners realise just how much of 'democracy' they've lost since i was a kid.

I am resident in a country currently transitioning from a dictatorship to a democracy, the dictatorship wasn't too bad to be fair, and i suspect the democracy will fail in due course (as it usually does).

It's very subjective. You cannot compare all dictatorships.
What is the country you live in I am very interested?

If you don't know Russian language and try to live in Belarus or Russia it would be crazy idea I think. Also have you been there? 😀
If you live in UAE it's very different.
 
Look at North Korea, if you are looking an a*s in this world, even better. There are no rashists there.
 
If a dictatorship is free market-oriented and values personal freedoms over political freedoms, I would pick that dictatorship any day. Not all dictatorships are equal to North Korea.
Hong Kong, Dubai, Qatar, Augusto Pinochet's Chile are some countries that come to my mind but there might be more. Also for those who mock Russia, taxes there are lower than in many Western countries. It's easy to get a hunting permit. It's not obligatory to put your kids in government schools and neither is it to vaccinate them, so even if they do not have political freedom, they certainly have more individual freedoms than many Western countries.

What's the point of having the freedom to criticize the next clown taking over the reins of a socialistic government when you'll live with those policies anyway?

The main point is the right of a fair trial. In a dictatorship you can get jailed any time if you have a business or money, then comes a proposition you cannot refuse - transfer your assets to a cop's nephew and enjoy your low taxes or rot in jail.

Same in western democracies, but that they don't give you any option and just take your money.
