Obviously you can't afford it with a mere $50m. It does change your life to have your own aircraft capable of intercontinental non stop flight.

I have only met a few people with crazy sums of wealth and they both admitted that the urge to own your own plane or large yacht was simply pouring your money down the drain, and for people with more money than brains. Both are depreciating assets. Far better to travel 1st class, limousine service, and rent your yacht. That way, you don't have to worry about ongoing costs and can keep life simple.
They must not value their time enough
And waste 2 hours at the airport, loose your bags, arrive far from your final destination, be unable to have your own schedule, deal with other sick/crazy passengers etc thu&¤#
If you worry about the costs of your plane your are not rich enough. Buy a jet card or charter when needed instead.

Which was more or less what I was saying! Buying your own yacht, helicopter, plane etc, brings a certain amount of responsibility, time, cost of insurance, berth, maintenance, space, energy etc. Do I want to spend time on that? No, thank you!
Far better to keep your wealth somewhere safe and pay for what you need when you need it. Preferably in cash! Then you can rest easy at night without worrying about your fast depreciating assets that may or may not be stolen or destroyed at any second. PS Property is a different matter. The more the better!

If you fly more than 50 hours per year, owning a plane (or a fraction of it) is cheaper than chartering it. Obviously you don't manage it personally but pay someone else to do that.
There might also be other good financial reasons why one (usually a company) wants to buy a plane or a yacht, but let's keep the secret lock9¤¤#

It all comes down to personal preference.
A perfect day for me is a run at the park, reading a book by the fireplace, and watching a movie with my girl at night. Even with the inflated prices of popcorn, and prorating electricity and other costs that whole day comes to like $4.37.
But to some people that would be boring as death and they'd rather spend their days in a yacht, eating twice a day in the Casino de Monte Carlo, and traveling to exotic locations 20+ times a year.
People in my group would just waste their time trying to become billionaires (although they could eventually become one due to the wonders of compound interest), but people in the second group would be really much happier with as much money as possible.

I do not own private jet...but Buying Private jet is worth every penny......If you are frequent flying........Flying by private jet save lots of time and remove the custom clearance waiting and other bureaucratic requirement.....Flying private is just like a walk in park.......Like you are taking taxi for that destination...Just no time wasting...no lines.......I believe If you can afford it ...Better to buy it........Yacht is different subject...but May be some startup will come up with some solution with low maintenance super yacht....This will change the whole equation about owning the yacht....may be who know....solar powered or some sort of electric super yacht...as One of the biggest outgoings in the running of a super yacht is the cost of diesel.

Yachts stay in the sea, and the sea is a rough environment. Whoever owns a house near it knows how much maintenance is required due to corrosion etc. Multiply that 10x for a yacht that remains in the sea most of the time. It's unlikely there will ever be a solution for that.
The remaining part of maintenance costs is the equivalent to owning a big, high tech house, which requires personnel and constant repairs.
If you own a small wood fishing boat (the equivalent of a cheap small apartment) you can still enjoy the sea, with very low maintenance costs, but in a different way.
Well, it depends on how much and how fast you travel.
Solar powered yachts do exist and are quite decent.
Don't forget there are also wonderful sailing yachts.
Quite nonsensical, but if it makes him happy, good for him. I suspect he doesn't know a thing about sailing, though.
