So, what are the tax/legal implications for someone who unwittingly opened up a business? They never paid themselves out of course bc they had no idea. So no income tax.
Say sales tax etc were paid by the company.
Are they just left with a case of theft that may or may never surface?

Starting a business unwittingly is not a normal occurrence. It sounds like either identity theft (in which case you're fine, once you manage to document/prove it) or a creative attempt at feigning ignorance of tax evasion (which the judge will have a chuckle at before sentencing for tax evasion).

Thats what Id assume.
If you used a dark, the actual owner of the dark is simply a victim of fraud and at no risk. I dont think anyone would assume hed open a company and never pay himself a cent lol. Would be pretty obvious I assume.
