Portugal D2 Visa without living full time in Portugal

I learned you can obtain a Portugal D2 visa by investing in a real estate project, similar to a Golden Visa, where you do not have to be a resident there. As far as I know, you have to maintain residency while being on a D2 visa and technically become a tax resident. Does anyone have this experience?

A lot of brits are moving to Lisbon I've been told, but I've also heard‌ that Portugal is incredibly bureaucratic. It might be something one should be cautious of, should‍ they decide to move to Portugal. Having said that, it's a beautiful place.

Like with the D7 visa, you need to spend the majority of⁣ your time in Portugal to keep the residency permit

Yes, but for Golden Visa the process can take⁣ up to 2 years from what I read.

I read/heard horrible stories from people who's been waiting for years (2 years seems to‌ be the norm, but it could be more).

Note that nothing in Portugal takes "the‍ expected turnaround time". Also consider that "there's been some discussions" from the (new) leading political⁠ party about increasing the time requirement to request citizenship from 5 years to 10 years.⁤

Also, you'll want to avoid becoming a tax resident in Portugal unless you have some⁣ preparation ahead of that.
