Actually, bearer shares are still very much viable,just more tightly regulated than they used to be.
Several jurisdictions have updated their compliance frameworks rather than banning them outright. The Marshall Islands, for example, still allows bearer share companies, but︀ under custodial requirements. We've assisted many clients in registering offshore bearer share companies there.
That said, opening a bank account for a bearer share company is a whole different challenge.︁ Most banks will outright refuse, given the perceived AML risk.
Still useful in specific contexts,︂ but not a silver bullet anymore.
