https://www.imidaily.com/europe/eu-...al-to-cut-visa-free-access-for-cbi-countries/

The European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) has voted‌ to approve amendments to EU visa regulations that would explicitly target countries offering citizenship by‍ investment (CBI) programs, potentially endangering visa-free access to Europe for numerous nations, including the Caribbean Five.

What do these citizenships offer if visa-free EU access is lost?

I can’t imagine⁤ that Malta or others within the bloc will be allowed to continue with their programs⁣ if this passes.

Will we see places like the Solomon Islands abandon their plans for⁢ programs?

Does that mean Malta and Cyprus will lost access to mainland EU? If not then‌ this doesn't make sense.

Either a country is a member‍ of the EU or it’s not, they can’t suddenly start dividing EU countries into different categories among themselves, can they?

This is true but I doubt‍ they’ll kick Malta out of Schengen. I wonder if they’ll apply pressure on some of these golden visa schemes within the EU next.

No value judgement from me, but it makes sense from their perspective. I’m honestly surprised⁢ at some of the places they allow to have visa free access compared to Australia︀ or Canada, for example.

Ok. South America? Most passports have full or︂ partial access and Paraguay has a useful residency program. Southeast Asia? Most passports have access.︃ FVEY? They don’t have access anyway. Sub-Saharan Africa? Not a draw. MENA? No access that︄ you can’t get through most other passports. Russia? Not many people are going these days.︅ China? Most don’t have access anyway. CARICOM? Maybe. We all realize who gets these things︆ and why. I doubt the target audience is Nigerian warlords who want to visit Brazil︇ visa free or sun their skin on the beaches of Antigua.

There’s some hypocrisy there or it’s the first step of︊ a larger plan.

There is so much confusion for people who just read an article and base their‌ opinion not the actual decision but on that article… In two sentences the EU intends‍ to enforce an amendment which will make it faster and easier to cancel visa free travel to the Schengen area. The draft describes the conditions under which this process can⁤ be speeded up, such as disregard to sanctions, lack of visa harmonization, ratio of refused⁣ applications etc etc. As Malta and Cyprus are not third countries but EU members so⁢ this draft regulation has no relationship to them at all. It is that simple, just︀ read the 29 pages of the amendment

you just don't︁ need to pay attention to such topics.
on this forum the same people regularly post︂ excerpts from some news and twist real information to make a sensation out of nothing.︃

another thing is that the moderators are happy with this, that such yellow topics are︄ not in the "let's talk" section, but in the necessary thematic section, where people can︅ exchange valuable information, and not arrange a circus.

Thank you for︁ clarification, some posters here like to confuse to get their post count up.

They quote the rationale in the linked report and it’s clear the reason⁣ for the amendment is to target citizenship by investment. There has been past pressure to⁢ restrict this sort of thing. It’s a valid question as to whether additional pressure will︀ be applied to Malta over their program, albeit through different means than the amendment mentioned︁ in the article.

If one had been paying attention, one could have predicted the restriction︂ of Italian citizenship by ancestry and gotten an application in before the door closed. Valuable︃ information? Not to someone with no Italian ancestors or a citizen of another EU nation,︄ but probably important to people who either have or now have no way of getting︅ an EU nation passport through that method.

Might Malta close their program under pressure? Might︆ a $250,000 passport lose its main appeal? It might be important to anyone who is︇ interested in those passports. If that’s not you, skip the topic like I skip the︈ topics about someone trying to launder a 4 figure crypto revenue through Zimbabwean banks.

Not much, lol.

the fact that visa-free access to the‍ EU is the main attraction of such a passport is just your opinion, lol

anything is possible, but that's not a reason to turn the forum into a news site

Do you feel compelled to be here and‍ comment on threads that you don’t think are relevant?

What have you done to try to steer things in the direction you believe should be posted?

It may be that⁤ there’s a lot of confusion, and it’s also true that some users enjoy drama more⁣ than others, and that small snippets of news get posted. But in many cases, they⁢ are relevant and worth discussing, and often they can help shed light on "information" that︀ you might be unsure about in terms of its significance.

With our more than 100,000︁ active visitors per month, I believe many find OCT quite relevant, and we know that︂ for many, reading the posts that get shared has been a game changer in many︃ ways.

I feel that I'm on public forum and‍ believe that could express my opinion same as any other user here.

I regularly report inappropriate topics or posts that may lead to⁤ off-topic or are off-topic, but you tend to ignore it, but childishly take offense at⁣ criticism and resort to personal attacks on me instead.

If people︃ like to take words out of context, twisting the original meaning of information, making a︄ drama out of nothing, this only means that they, consciously or unconsciously, do not want︅ to get to the truth, but it is more important for them to create a︆ circus around it.

This is truth and at the same time, on this forum there is a huge amount︉ of biased, one-sidedly given or outright untrue/false information from a number of users.

As I’ve mentioned before in other posts and replies to similar comments: if this content‌ doesn’t appeal to you, you’re more than welcome to explore other spaces that better suit‍ your preferences.

With that said, this thread is now closed. Please take a moment to reflect on that.
