Can someone explain blockchain to me in easy steps?

I was wondering if there are people here that can explain to me how blockchain works?

Not something huge but simple steps on how this works and what it is, just simple easy reading English if possible.

this depends on whether you are looking for explanation for the average guy from the‌ street (having no programming and IT background) or how deep are your IT skills (asymmetric‍ cryptography, hashing, randomization, ...)
there is no generally "simple" answer - depends on who is⁠ asking
